The Hockey News Yearbook issue has the Rangers projected to finish 7th in the Metro, ahead of the Islanders.
They have their odds listed at 80-1 to win the Stanley Cup.
It is not clear where they have the Rangers finishing overall in the league standings.
The Hockey News also recently released scoring projections for this season.
They have Winnipeg defeating Tampa Bay in the Stanley Cup Final.
Adam Rotter: The path to the playoffs for the Rangers involves their being five teams from the Metro making the playoffs and only three from the Atlantic. Unless guys like Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider, Pavel Buchnevich and Jimmy Vesey all take monster steps, Henrik Lundqvist is healthy and Filip Chytil and Lias Andersson battle for the Calder, the Rangers best shot at the playoffs will come with that last wild card spot. Most, if not all publications and projections, will have the Rangers listed at the bottom of the Metro but the real question will be how far down in the overall standings they will be. The Rangers still have talent up front, as well as Lundqvist in net, and I think that at some point, if not for a while, they will be around the final wild card slot. Even if the Rangers sell guys off at the deadline again, they may accumulate too-many points in the first 2/3 of the year to end up in the bottom five. One or two injuries could change that though and put the Rangers near the bottom and with a better chance to land Jack Hughes.
