With 14 games in the books, this year's version of the New York Giants has provided its fans with a season chock full of excitement and disappointment at the same time. For purists, it has been the most frustrating season they have ever seen.

The Giants' loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday was their sixth defeat this season after they were leading or tied with fewer than 2 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, that is the most such games they've had in one season since the 1970 merger.

Those six losses were by a total of 15 points. Two of those losses were to potential top seeds in the AFC and NFC. They lost to New England by one point with 1 second remaining, and to Carolina by three points as time expired.

Former Giant Damontre Moore was claimed off waivers by the Miami Dolphins -- but he won't play against New York on Monday night.

The move for Moore is deferred, meaning it will be processed on Tuesday. He will not be on the Dolphins roster on Monday night as they play the Giants at home.

Moore was cut by the Giants last week after reportedly getting into an argument with Cullen Jenkins over headphones, among other issues. Moore also reportedly cursed out coach Tom Coughlin and yelled at GM Jerry Reese on Friday, leading to his release.

Moore, 23, was drafted by the Giants in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft. He has three sacks and 23 total tackles this season.

After waiving defensive end Damontre Moore on Friday, the Giants signed outside linebacker Stansly Maponga on Saturday.

Maponga, 24, spent three seasons with the Falcons, playing 12 games in 2013 and 12 games in 2014. He was waived by the Falcons prior to the regular season.

At 6-foot-2, 265 pounds, Maponga was Atlanta's fifth-round pick out of TCU in 2013. He recorded eight tackles and one sack in his NFL career.

The Giants waived Moore, 23, on Friday after he fought teammate Cullen Jenkins over a pair of free headphones.

Damontre Moore, formerly of the New York Giants, said on ESPN New York Radio Saturday morning that he could have handled the situation that led to his release Friday better by simply walking away from teammate Cullen Jenkins.

Instead, Moore got into an altercation and then a fight with Jenkins in the locker room over some headphones that Odell Beckham Jr. handed out to his teammates. Jenkins got two pairs, Moore got none, hence the throwdown.

According to James Kratch of NJ.com, Moore was invited on the air by former teammate Steve Weatheford, who was co-hosting the show with Dave Rothenberg.

"We made the move today in the interest of both parties," Giants general manager Jerry Reese said in a press release.

Moore got into a fight with teammate Cullen Jenkins before practice on Friday over not getting free Beats headphones like other players, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (Dec. 11).

Second-year DE Damontre Moore is recovering from surgery on his ailing shoulder, the one that kept him from playing a bigger role on the Giants' defense as a rookie.

"It sucked, I couldn't get to sleep. It was horrible," Moore said today at an event, as per Conor Orr of the Star-Ledger.

Moore had planned on an increased weightlifting regimen in an effort to get stronger. The surgery has put a temporary crimp in those plans. He is still awaiting to be cleared by doctors.

Our friend Andy Furman doesn't get excited about too many things. In fact his blog is usually full of criticism and caustic observations. ?He is a lot like me, not getting overly anxious, excited or depressed with things, just calling it like he sees it.

We also know a good thing when we see it, but I want to see a little more from this Damontre Moore before I start carving his bust for Canton. That's just the way I am. That's my risk management hat. ?I can't shed it.

Training camp is still young, but one rookie on the Giants' defense is off to a rousing start. DE Damontre Moore, the team's third-round selection in April's draft of Texas A&M, is flying all over the place in non-contact drills. People are taking notice.

Defensive line coach Robert Nunn was asked today how much Moore can handle at this point in time...

If all goes right, the Giants could have another top-notch pass rushing option in Damontre Moore.

When our colleague Jimmy Kempski of Blogging the bEast tackles a subject, he leaves no stone unturned. Such is the case with his recent series on the Giants' 3rd round selection in this year's draft, DE Damontre Moore. We are all hoping the Blue has the steal of the draft, here. Jimmy says maybe, but not so fast.....

In February, Mel Kiper had Giants 3rd round pick (81st overall) Damontre Moore going?2nd overall to the Jaguars?in the 2013 NFL Draft.

A tradition like none other: the Giants turning heads with their draft class.

The Giants had seven picks in this weekend's draft, adding depth to a number of key positions, including offensive and defensive line, running back and the secondary. Of course, a position that remained untouched was linebacker.

Some staff reactions to the Giants second and third round draft picks, DT Jonathan Hankins of Ohio St and DE Damontre Moore of Texas A&M:

Jim Mancari:?The Giants have struck gold in the past with defensive linemen, so why not try to continue the trend? Even though the team brought in Cullen Jenkins and Mike Patterson and is expecting a healthy return of Shaun Rogers, those guys are all on the tail end of their careers. Johnathan Hankins from Ohio State reminds me of big Vince Wilfork as a guy who takes up a ton of space along the defensive line. If he shows in training camp that he's the real deal, he will see significant time and may even earn a starting role. It's amazing how someone that big can be so explosive, and judging by the tapes, Hankins has shown he can get into the backfield. Nice pick.

Damontre Moore seems to be more of a long-term project. He played both defensive end and linebacker at Texas A&M, similar to Mathias Kiwanuka's role for the Giants. Moore can really learn a lot from Kiwi. Not much will be expected from him right away since his path is currently blocked by Justin Tuck and Jason Pierre-Paul -- and Kiwi for that matter. Moore's combine numbers were a bit weak, but it looks like Jerry Reese drafted him more so on his potential, which could wind up blossoming in Big Blue. Solid pick definitely.
