David Carr

Tom Coughlin told us yesterday that we'd have to wait and see how much his backup quarterbacks would play tomorrow night in Pittsburgh and it which order he would play them.

"I think we'll try to get them all in," the coach said. When asked who would come in after Eli Manning and David Carr, all he would say was "Don?t worry about it.? You?ll see it..."

Both Johnathan Hankins and Justin Pugh are poised to start for the New York Giants at the start of the season, Giants.com writer John Schmeelk writes.

Pugh and Hankins were the Giants' first and second-round selections in the 2013 NFL Draft, respectively. Pugh, the offensive tackle out of Syracuse, should start Week 1, filling an immediate need along the offensive line.

Giants.com writers believe Hankins could make an impact right away and eventually take over for Linval Joseph, while Schmeelk believes he'll be a Day 1 starter, alongside Pugh.

A tradition like none other: the Giants turning heads with their draft class.

The Giants had seven picks in this weekend's draft, adding depth to a number of key positions, including offensive and defensive line, running back and the secondary. Of course, a position that remained untouched was linebacker.

Shortly after canceling his scheduled visit with the New York Giants, free-agent quarterback Pat White has planned a meeting with the Washington Redskins, likely his next landing spot, according to CBS Sports.

White was slated to meet with the Giants, his second visit after spending time in San Francisco last week. But after the 49ers traded for Colt McCoy to back up Colin Kaepernick, the need for White quickly dissipated.

The Giants already re-signed Eli Manning's longtime backup David Carr, though it was presumed White could fit the role of read-option/Wildcat quarterback in Kevin Gilbride's offense.

Former Miami Dolphins and West Virginia quarterback Pat White expressed interest in returning to the NFL earlier in the week.

White worked out with the 49ers on Thursday, and according to reports, the Giants are the next stop on his comeback tour.

The Giants re-signed David Carr to a deal earlier in the off-season, but White is potential third-string insurance policy and perhaps the player Kevin Gilbride could design a read-option/Wildcat package for.

David Carr tested the market, but he's coming back to New York.

According to USA TODAY Sports, the free agent quarterback has agreed to return to the Giants to back up Eli Manning.

Carr, 33, has backed up Manning four of the last five seasons. Earlier in the off-season, it appeared as if a divorce between Carr and the G-Men was imminent.

David Carr, who has backed up Eli Manning for four of the last five seasons, will likely leave the New York Giants and seek a back-up opportunity elsewhere.

Apparently, he wants a backup gig with more opportunities for playing time.

Carr, 33, will be a free agent on March 12, and reports have surfaced connecting the quarterback to a handful of destinations. Among them: the Cardinals, who are desperate for depth at the position, and the Buccaneers, where former Giants assistant Mike Sullivan is the offensive coordinator.

We will be doing positional breakdowns of each of the Giants? units this week, with my responsibility focusing on offense.

I?ll start with the easy one: quarterback.

Eli Manning maybe had a sub-par year according to his standards, but he still played well enough to earn a spot on the NFC Pro Bowl roster, albeit as a replacement.

Welcome to Friday at GFB. Today's weather forecast here in the New York City is predicted to be sunny and 75. It's March...I have come to the realization that there is no off-season in the NFL any longer. The NFL Network and other year-round entities (such as websites and blogs like this one) never rest. There's always something happening. So, we will keep plugging....

David Carr officially re-signed with the Giants yesterday to backup Eli Manning for another year...Mike Garafolo reported that it is a one-year deal worth the veteran minimum ($925k) with a $65k bonus. Carr did not want to leave - and didn't. As we told you, he loves it here and who's got it better than him? Eli hasn't missed a game in eight years...

According to his own twitter account, David Carr will be back with the Giants for the 2012 season.

Champ has to defend his belt. I'll be there with my GMEN when WE do. #ALLIN #WEgotaRing #loyalty #greatestfansinthegame #blessed
Mike Garafolo hears that Carr turned down a more lucrative deal from an unidentified team to return tot he Giants.

The former first overall pick has done a great job of holding the clipboard while Eli Manning, another former first overall pick, has become the NFL's new iron man. Carr has looked good in what little playing time he's gotten, and he's probably good enough to compete with a young QB for playing time elsewhere, but he is seemingly just as happy to stay in his current situation. Giants fans would love to see him not play at all this season.

-I?m surprised by the release of Phillip Dillard. It isn?t that I was a fan, because I wasn?t. But I was convinced that the Giants were. He was the 2nd team MLB throughout the preseason. If they had designs on cutting him, I would have expected to see more of Herzlich or Greg Jones at MLB during the 4th game. That said, had Clint Sintim remained healthy, then perhaps the Giants would have parted with Herzlich. That would have been a mistake, but at least there would be a clear cut 2nd string MLB on the roster.

-The Giants have depth issues. That isn?t news. And what will either be their key to victory or undoing this year, just may be the stockpile they have at DE. They have an A+ in that area, but Bs and Cs in others. But it is quite impressive that the 4th DE slot on the depth chart has remained a constant since mid-2007. Dave Tollefson deserves a tip of the cap.

According to his twitter, former Giants QB David Carr has signed with Big Blue once again.

NY, round 2, can't wait to get back, Great Staff, Great Players, Best Fans in the game...and what an amazing city. 2much 2 pass up
Interesting...I assume he'll get a chance to battle Sage Rosenfels for the backup QB job, but the Giants have not made a habit of carrying three QBs on the roster. It can't hurt to add another solid backup, but I would hope Reese is paying attention to the glut of linebackers that are signing for reasonable deals.

Quarterback Jim Sorgi came to the New York Giants in the off season with a unique tie to the franchise.?? Sorgi, drafted in 2004 by the Colts in the sixth round out of Wisconsin has been backing up a Manning his entire career.? It felt good to have Sorgi in Giants camp; however, after NY Giants star quarterback Eli Manning left the game in the 2nd quarter with a 3 inch laceration to the? forehead... Jim Sorgi looked uncomfortable until he found his groove with undrafted wide receiver, Victor Cruz.

It's to be expected that his timing might be off coming in cold off the sidelines, but that is no excuse for poor mechanics and bad clock management.?? Bringing in Sorgi was an easy decision for NY Giants GM Jerry Reese as the coaching staff agreed that the connection between Sorgi and the Manning brothers would breed a comfort zone.

It is going to take some time for Sorgi to learn the offense and get comfortable with his new role, but watching Sorgi throw off his back foot time and time again was unsettling during his first few series. ? But then something happened!
