The New Jersey Devils host the Washington Capitals on Saturday at 1 p.m.

According to STATS:

  • Washington defeated the Islanders, 3-2, at Verizon Center on Thursday night, snapping a two-game losing streak in the process. The Capitals are still the only team in hockey yet to lose three straight tilts this season.
  • New Jersey lost, 3-2, in a shootout with the Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre on Thursday night, taking at least one point for the sixth time in its last seven games (5-1-1 record). The Devils have dropped four straight shootouts (2-1 in first three shootouts of the season).
  • The Caps won the first meeting of the season with the Devils, 5-3, at Verizon Center on October 10. Dating to December 6, 2014, Washington has defeated New Jersey four consecutive times by a combined score of 16-6.
  • T.J. Oshie had a goal and a helper Thursday night, earning first-star accolades, and giving him five points (1g, 4a) during his current four-game scoring streak. Oshie has just one assist in six career skates vs. the Devils.
  • David Schlemko had a goal and an assist Thursday night, recording his second multi-point game of the season, and giving him six points (2g, 4a) in his last five skates (nine points in first 39 games of 2015-16). Schlemko leads all New Jersey blueliners in both goals (6) and points (15) this season.
  • Washington has been held without a power-play goal in three straight games (0-for-12 during streak). The Caps are 22-0-2 when netting at least one goal with the man-advantage this season (14-9-2 when scoring zero PPG).

David Schlemko scored on a power play with 8:46 left and the New Jersey Devils rallied twice to beat the New York Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Lee Stempniak and Joseph Blandisi also scored, Cory Schneider made 31 saves and the surprising Devils beat the Rangers for the second straight time this season. It was their fifth win in six games and moved them within two points of New York for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

J.T. Miller scored twice for New York, which came within a goalpost of tying it on a shot by Ryan McDonaghHenrik Lundqvist made 22 saves.

The game was decided by special teams. The Devils were 2 for 2 with the extra skater and they killed off all four Rangers power plays. >> Read more

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) David Schlemko's tiebreaking goal with 3:05 left in the third period gave the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night.

Bobby Farnham and Kyle Palmieri also scored for New Jersey, and Keith Kinkaid stopped 26 shots.

Eric Staal scored twice and Kris Versteeg had two assists for the Hurricanes. Cam Ward made 21 saves.

(AP) -- The Carolina Hurricanes hope a chance to rest allowed a sputtering offense the opportunity to recapture its prior form.

The New Jersey Devils look to keep breaking out of their scoring slump with another big offensive performance against the Hurricanes on Saturday night in Raleigh.

An offense that had been lethargic nearing the holiday break came to life in the Devils' most recent outing, as Kyle Palmieri, Jordin Tootoo and David Schlemko scored within a 2:12 span during the first period of Tuesday's 4-3 victory at Detroit. New Jersey (17-13-5) had managed five goals over its prior five outings and lost its previous three.

DETROIT (AP) Kyle Palmieri had a goal and an assist, Cory Schneider made 25 saves and the New Jersey Devils defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Tuesday night.

Jordin TootooDavid Schlemko and Sergey Kalinin also scored for the Devils. They had goals on three straight shots midway through the first period, ending Jimmy Howard's night, and the Red Wings never caught up.

Dylan LarkinMike Green and Riley Sheahan scored for Detroit.
