There is no doubt that the Giants will be concerned with the Panthers formidable rushing attack when they take the field for the first real game of 2010.

It wasn?t long ago, December 2008, when two of the league?s top running back stables put on a clinic in a battle for 1st seed placement in the NFC playoffs. Three of the 4 running backs featured in that Giants victory over the Panthers will be on display again tomorrow: Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams, and Brandon Jacobs.

Jacobs scored the final touchdown from 1 yard out in overtime, but the true hero of the game was former Giant Derrick Ward. Ward capped off a spectacular game with two long runs in sudden death.

Derrick Ward was released from Tampa Bay today after a disappointing tenure with the team.

Ward became a star for the Giants after spending his first couple seasons as a third string option. Seizing the opportunity to earn carries, Ward became a major offensive weapon when Brandon Jacobs was injured in 2007.

Ward would rush for 1,025 yards in 2008 and was the hero of a memorable December showdown between the Giants and Panthers in 2008.
