Devils C Brian Boyle will make his season debut on Wednesday night, the team announced.
Boyle took regular reps in practice on Tuesday as he prepares to ease himself back into game action after being diagnosed with leukemia during training camp.
Coach John Hynes said Tuesday that he would talk to Boyle regarding his status for Wednesday's game against Vancouver.
"Not sure if we'll play him at wing or center," he said, according to Devils.com. "I think going into today's practice, it was a good opportunity to get Brian some reps in breakout opportunities and defensive zone coverage."
Boyle has practiced in recent days for the first time since he was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia. He recently said he was doing his best to get back with the team as soon as possible.
"That's another step," Boyle said of Tuesday's practice. "It's a new development. Again, you work hard, you evaluate, see where you are. Fortunately for me it's been on the up and up. Hopefully I'll play here really soon."
Boyle is in his first season with the Devils after splitting time last season between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Toronto Maple Leafs. The 32-year-old tallied 10 goals and 12 assists in 75 games last season.
