The Devils will need to remove Brodeur from injured reserve before he can dress Tuesday, but they already cleared a roster spot Sunday by returning Stefan Matteau to his junior club. Both Pete DeBoer and Johan Hedberg said it sounds like Brodeur will be on the bench and in uniform as Moose's back up Tuesday night against the Rangers. The happiest man to hear the news? Probably a combination of Hedberg and DeBoer, who both probably couldn't wait to get their top goalie back in the lineup. The only reason Marty won't start Tuesday likely has to do with conditioning, but the fact remains that Brodeur is returning to a team that seriously needs him. For as well as Hedberg has played over the past 10 days or so, he has to be exhausted, for one. Also, the return of Brodeur will provide a mental boost throughout the locker room, even if he's only a backup Tuesday. I'll be interested to see how the team responds, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if we saw the Devils start a stretch of some really strong overall hockey Tuesday night.
