Devils G Keith Kinkaid was an unlikely inclusion to the scoring section of the box score with an assist on Nico Hischier's goal in the third period. Being honest, Kinkaid said he doesn't even remember what he did.
The Devils beat the Hurricanes 5-2 to keep Carolina behind them in the standings, as New Jersey is now three points ahead. They are level on points with the Flyers in fourth, just four behind the second place Penguins. The Devils have two games in hand on Pittsburgh.
"I don't even remember what I did," Kinkaid said, via Andrew Gross of The Record. "I'll take it."
Kinkaid had 27 saves to go with his assist while Hischier added two assists to his goal. Hischier brought his point total up to 37 (11 G, 27 A) as the rookie has enjoyed his first season in the NHL.
"I like those challenges. I just like that process, big games. I like to play in that," Hischier said. "There, I'm having the most fun so it's probably that."
Meanwhile, Taylor Hall extended his point streak to 16 games. The Devils are next in action on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the Lightning.
