The Devils have signed first overall pick Nico Hischier to a maximum entry-level three-year contract, Vice President/GM Ray Shero announced on Saturday.
Hischier's contract is worth $925,000 AAV and includes performance bonuses. The 18-year-old just completed New Jersey's Development Camp on Saturday, according to the team.
Hischier tallied 38 goals and 48 assists in 57 games for for Halifax (QMJHL) in 2016-17, which was the most among rookies. In the playoffs, Hischier scored three goals and had four assists.
His numbers propelled him to Rookie of the Year honors in the QMJHL and CHL and was also the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
The Devils finished in last place with a 28-40-14 record last season. The team will also have the No. 36 pick in next year's draft.
