Zubrus has been skating on his own and today was spotted shooting the puck.
I believe was the first time anyone saw him shooting, which is obviously an important step in his return from a wrist injury. My guess is he has to spend at least another week or so building up strength in that wrist before returning to practice on a non-contact basis. Then, he'll probably need a few practices to get his conditioning right and legs under him. At that point, it'll already be the first week of April (at least), which is much closer to the eight-week worst-case scenario the Devils gave before Zubrus underwent surgery. At this point, it's pretty obvious the 4-6 week timeline was a highly optimistic one. The good news is it's clear Zubrus is making progress and should return with 10-13 games left on the schedule. The bad news, is that with Kovy's injury the Devils are in even more desperate need of a player like Zubrus, who won't duplicate Kovy's offensive impact but will at least give the Devils some healthy bodies for Pete DeBoer to ice.
