In the wake of Cory Schneider's performance last night, it will be number 30 in net for the Devils when they head to Boston on Saturday. This certainly makes sense. Schneider hasn't exactly been lights out over the last two games and Brodeur needs to get the work in.
For Brodeur, this is an opportunity for him to perhaps reclaim the "starter" role for the time being. If he's able to limit the Bruins to two goals or under, he'll certainly be considered to play a second straight game when the Devils skate at home against Tampa Bay on Tuesday.
Both goaltenders haven't exactly been stellar so far, so it's still very much an open competition moving forward. It looked like Schneider was on his way towards establishing himself when he came out and played two sub-par games in a row where he gave up multiple "soft" goals.
Now, it's Brodeur's turn to steal a game and take the reigns. It'll be no easy task against the defending Eastern Conference champs, but it'll be a chance for the future hall-of-famer to play against a good team coming off of a strong performance by the defense against Vancouver.
