The Devils have activated Taylor Hall from the IR, while Reid Boucher has been placed on waivers, the team announced Thursday evening

Hall suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee on Nov. 12, and had surgery to repair the injury two days later. While it was estimated he would be out for three-to-four weeks, Hall will return only 17 days after he underwent surgery. The Devils went 2-4-2 during Hall's absence.

In 14 games this season, Hall has five goals and seven assists.

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks are once again starting to re-establish their footing within the cozy home confines of the United Center. The New Jersey Devils, on the other hand, are struggling to establish theirs on the road.

The Devils have dropped five straight games away from home after Tuesday night's 3-2 loss to the Jets in Winnipeg. It's a streak they hope to snap on Thursday night when they face the Blackhawks in Chicago's second straight home game following two weeks on the road.

New Jersey (10-7-5) couldn't bounce back from a two-goal deficit against the Jets, which added to the Devils' traveling woes. Despite Miles Wood scoring his first NHL goal and fellow rookie Nick Lappin adding another, New Jersey came up short and dropped to 3-7-3 on the road this season.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Winnipeg Jets are preparing to welcome a nearly point-per-game player to their line-up and it's not going to cost them a single draft pick.

Ordinarily, the addition of somebody of Bryan Little's ilk would require a nearly-blockbuster trade, but instead the Jets will merely activate him from injured reserve.

Little, 29, played all of four shifts this season before going down with a lower-body injury during the season-opener against the Carolina Hurricanes on Oct. 13. He had been the team's No. 1 center since the Jets moved north from Atlanta in 2011, but a fractured vertebrae in his back late last season, which caused Little to miss another 25 games, enabled Mark Scheifele to move into that spot.

As well as Matt Murray is playing, and as uncharacteristically poorly as Marc-Andre Fleury is playing, Sullivan might have no choice but to soon give a majority of the starts to Murray.

For the second time in five days, Fleury was worked over Friday in a blowout loss. He gave up an opening-minute goal to Charlie Coyle of Minnesota -- one of Coyle's two goals in the first period -- and the Wild went on to the second dominant win over the Penguins in as many games this season, a 6-2 decision that, at times, didn't look to be that close.

"Usually that doesn't faze us," Fleury said of giving up a quick, early goal. "We're a good enough team to come back."

The New Jersey Devils are limping home to the Prudential Center after a 1-3-0 Western Conference road trip.

New Jersey (9-6-3) hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday riding a three-game losing streak and will be without leading scorer Taylor Hall (knee surgery) and forwards Kyle Palmieri (upper body) and Michael Cammalleri (personal).

The Devils could certainly use some firepower, especially on a moribund power-play that is 0-for-29 in their last nine games. New Jersey is 26th in the NHL with 2.22 goals per game and the power play ranks 28th at 11.9 percent.

San Jose opens a five-game homestand and a stretch of seven of eight at SAP Center on Monday night against the New Jersey Devils, who are dealing with their own problems trying to generate offense.

The Sharks are coming off a 3-3-0 road trip -- their longest of the season. Things started well with 10 goals scored in wins over the Washington Capitals, Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning. They followed by tallying only four goals in losses to the Carolina Hurricanes, St. Louis Blues and Arizona Coyotes.

The New Jersey Devils have shown the ability to respond from some not-so-solid performances and that mindset could go a long way in helping the team navigate through the season.

The Carolina Hurricanes haven't been quite so in tune with dodging rough patches during the first few weeks of the season.

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Lightning and New Jersey Devils meet for the third and final time this season Saturday -- all in the first month of the season -- and after splitting the first two meetings, Tampa Bay might want to try a different start.

In both a 3-2 win in Tampa three weeks ago and a 3-1 loss on the road last weekend, the Lightning opened the game down 2-0 to the Devils after one period, an early struggle that's been a regular part of the Lightning's season so far. They're 6-4-1, but they've given up the first goal in seven of those 11 games.

"Clearly, it's troublesome," said Lightning coach Jon Cooper after another 2-0 deficit in Thursday's home shootout loss to the Bruins -- in the 10th frame of the shootout. "We fell down (Thursday) but I didn't think we should have been down 2-0. When they got their legs under them, they played well enough to win."
