"We weren't scoring enough to win hockey games," said Elias after Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. "We found a way to lose games in the first half."
This is the third straight year the Devils have missed the playoffs. And even though the Devils were hit with a barrage of injuries and faced a tough schedule in the first half of the season, Elias isn't looking to use excuses.
"Not scoring enough has been our issue throughout the season," Elias said. "You have to have everything. You have to have skill, guys that will do the dirty job and get pucks in the corner and guys that are good around the net.
"We have a mixture of that. But do we have a pure sniper here? I don't think so. I think we rely upon team strength, but that obviously hasn't been working for us as much as we'd like to."
