The Rangers, Islanders and Devils all have some young, talented members on their teams, which begs the question: Who is the best young hockey player in New York?
SNY narrowed down three candidate and a look at some of their stats through the first quarter of the 2018-19 season.
Filip Chytil, 19, Rangers
The rookie center for the Rangers is off to a hot start with the Blueshirts, recoridng seven points (four goals, three assists). All four of his goals have came in the last four games as he's given a spark for the Rangers which has them in second place in the Metropolitan Division.
Mathew Barzal, 21, Islanders
The Islanders center has been an offensive force in his second full season in the NHL. After an 85-point season last year, he has 18 points through 19 games this season and 16 of them are assists. Nine of his points have come on the power-play and he's won 43.17 percent of his face-offs.
Nico Hischier, 19, Devils
The Devils may be off to a disappointing start to the seaosn, but Hischier remains a bright spot on the team. The second-year center has 12 points (three goals, nine assists) through 15 games this season and has won 42.7 percent of his face-offs.
