Dustin Keller

Some reports on the net suggest that Jets FA TE Dustin Keller may be considering hooking up with the Giants. Not a far-fetched idea, but there isn't much teeth to it.

Keller is currently testing the market, meeting with the Dolphins this week and leaving Miami without a deal. His asking price was apparently too high.

The recent rash of TE free agent signings have Keller seeing dollar signs. The Giants' own Martellus Bennett garnered a four-year, $20 million deal from Chicago. Other mildly distinguished TEs scored big money as well. From PFT:

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. ? The much awaited return of Dustin Keller appears to be nearing as the Jets tight end looks likely to make his second appearance of the season this Sunday against the Colts ? and no one is more relieved about this than Keller himself.

Keller, who hasn?t played since the Week 1 blowout win over the Bills, has been besieged by a hamstring injury that has sidelined him for the last four weeks. The injury marks the first time in Keller?s five years in the league that he has missed a game, snapping his regular season games played streak at 65 games.

On Friday, Keller took a significant step forward in being able to play again.

While it sounds like bad news for Josh Baker's hopes to play with the Jets this season, the Jets might dodge a bullet regarding their leading receiver from 2011, Dustin Keller. ?Keller?pulled a hamstring during the initial offensive series against the Panthers last night and remained out the rest of the game. ?Keller texted ESPNNewYork.com this morning telling Rich Cimini that?"I should be fine for the season opener [...] it's not that bad." ?ESPN also reported that Keller might not even need to get an MRI for the matter.

Hamstrings are tricky business and can be fickle to come back from -- as Darrelle Revis can attest to from two years ago. ?Expect that even if Keller plays in two weeks, he might not be at full strength for a few more weeks. ?The Jets will likley try and rest Keller as much as they can in the meantime as players playing with hamstring injuries can lead to other leg/foot related injuries if they are trying to be too cautious.

Tight end Dustin Keller is having a career year. The favorite target of quarterback Mark Sanchez, Keller is the Jets' top receiver, both in overall yardage (574) and in yards per game (52.2). And with five games left to play, it seems almost certain that Keller will top his previous career-high total of 687 yards, set in 2010.

According to Metro, much of Keller's success could be attributed to the role Tom Moore has played as offensive consultant this year. Moore's brought his "tight-end friendly" perspective to the team, and it has shown in practice and in games:

?Normally when you?re coaching up on your guys, things you talk about is route depth, where your quarterback expects you to be. He kind of will go more into detail in how you want to set your defender up, if he?s doing this, you want to recognize it, how you want to set it up to break this out,? Keller told Metro. ?He?s been great with that as far as the small things that it takes a long time for a receiver to develop.?
