The Caribbean Winter League regular season ended in the Dominican Republic on December 22, and in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela on Monday, the 30th. This will be the last full Winter League update.

2014 Mets-?Wilmer Flores?(Bravos de Margarita???VWL) ? Another week, and more of the same from the 22-year-old: more hits. He had multi-hit gamesWednesday, Thursday, and Friday and "slacked" Saturday by going 1-for-5 to extend his hitting streak to five games. He's hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, and is hitting .429/.478/.714 with three doubles and three homers in his last 10 contests. In 20 games overall, he's hit .385/.449/.551 with four doubles and three homers to go along with nine walks and nine strikeouts. He's pretty batting average dependent (he owns a .166 isolated slugging) but he's also hitting .385. If he had enough at bats to qualify, his .385 batting average would be second in the Venezuelan League and his on-base percentage would be tied for second.

-?Juan Lagares?(Aguilas Cibaenas???DWL) - ?Out of action since December 2. Still resting his knee, which was scheduled to keep him out for?three weeks.

Can You Be the 25th Man in the Bullpen?-?Joel Carreno?(Escogido -?DWL) ? Carreno threw twice in the last week, with four strikeouts against one walk in 1.1 inning while allowing a run, his fifth in 17.1 innings to take his DWL ERA up to 2.08. He's fanned 20 and walked six.

While much of the world gathers at Disney World, to eat, drink, negotiate over players, celebrate retirements, and try to schmooze their way into a new nugget of information or job, lets talk instead about guys still playing ball: those in the Caribbean Winter Leagues. It's been a slow week since we checked in last on this group.

2014 Mets- Wilmer Flores has played in three games in the last seven days, going 1-for-13. Overall, how's this for strikezone control: 5 walks and three strikeouts in nine games as part of a .333/.425/.364 batting line.

- Juan Lagares was 1-for-4 with a walk last Monday, and then flew to New York to have his knee examined. It turns out his issue was not serious and his prescription was to rest his knee for three weeks.

If you don't want to talk about Alabama-Auburn, check in instead on some of the Mets playing ball in Caribbean winter leagues.

2014 Mets- Newly arrived Wilmer Flores joined up with the Bravos de Margarita on November 27, and has a hit in each of his first six games during which time he's hit a crisp .500/.577/.550 with one double, four walks and one strikeout. It's six games and all, but four walks in six games is a nice start.

- Juan Lagares has lost 130 points of OPS in his last nine games, but is still hitting .345/.378/.418 with five doubles and one home run for Aguilas Cibaenas in the Dominican. Lagares drew one walk in his first 16 games and five walks in his last 11 games. He's managing the strike zone a little bit ?with a 16/6 K/BB overall in 27 games. ?He remains a hitter who is very reliant on contact and batting average on balls in play.

The other day we looked at hitters playing in the Caribbean so today we'll check on the pitchers. It's not a long or thrilling list.

DWLDomingo Tapia (Gigantes del Cibao): 2 G, 2 IP, 1 H, 4 BB, 1 K

Looks like the control problems that plagued Tapia all season followed him south this winter as he's walked two batters in each of his first two appearances.

As exciting as Sandy Alderson's press conference was Friday, there are still Mets farmhands playing baseball in Arizona and the Caribbean.? In general, it was a brutal week for Mets pitching in Arizona.

I've excerpted the highlights for me, but the full list of Mets' guys playing winter ball and their stats is available here.

Brad Holt was named the Arizona Fall League's Pitcher of the Week for Week 2.? In his nine AFL innings, he's allowed four hits, four walks and struck out nine.? Scouts have noted that he's working in the low 90s and touching 95 and been working on an upper-80s cutter-type offering that is, to quote one, just "meh" right now.

Daniel Murphy, despite going hitless in his first two games had three doubles in his third, which was enough to earn Aguilas's team Player of the Week, says Adam Rubin.

You can follow all of the Mets playing in winter-ball here at MLB.com's aggregate page.? They've had this feature for a few years on their proprietary site, but I hadn't seen it publicly available before.? So good job MLB.com.

I wanted to put the big time numbers Fernando Martinez is putting up in the DWL into context.? The following chart compares the performance of Met farmhands in the Domican Winter League to the League as a whole.? The first line is the league average across the major rate categories while the subsequent rows are the Mets' batting lines.? The final column, OPS + scales a player's OPS so that 100 is the league average.

[table=9]

Martinez is raking.? Victor Mendez and Fernando Tatis are hitting well.
