After getting cut by the Oakland Raiders, former Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg signed with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, the team announced.

Hackenberg, whom the Jets drafted in the second round in 2016, never appeared in a regular-season game with New York.

The 23-year-old out of Penn State was traded to Oakland in May and eventually cut a few weeks later.

Marc and Ralph give their thoughts on if Eli Manning should still be with the Giants next year and, if not, what could be next for Big Blue.

Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive

If the Giants had any thoughts about starting rookie Davis Webb on Christmas Eve in Arizona, they definitely don't have any now.

Eli Manning slammed that door shut with an impressive performance against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, and interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo reiterated Monday that the team has no plans to change their depth chart.

Manning completed 37 of 57 passes for 434 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. It could've been more if his receivers didn't have their usual problem with drops...

Giants tight end Evan Engram said he believed he was interfered with and held on New York's last gasp in Sunday's 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

"It was really obvious there should've been a flag," Engram said, according to NJ.com's Ryan Dunleavy. "Those guys played their hearts out and they are really emotional. We felt like we should've got that call."

On fourth-and-goal from the Philadelphia 6-yard line with 48 seconds remaining, Eli Manning's pass intended for a leaping Engram sailed out of the end zone, however Engram contended that Eagles safety Corey Graham interfered with him in single coverage.

"My arm was kind of held," Engram said. "It was obvious that he kind of arm-barred me. I thought it was definitely defensive pass interference. Fourth down. It was really obvious, but no call."

PHILADELPHIA -- Olivier Vernon is the son of a retired police officer who served for 25 years. He's a child of immigrants, with a father who came from Jamaica and a mother who hailed from Switzerland. He has watched the racial problems he sees in this country for a while, and listened closely to the words of a man he insisted "ain't my president."

Sometime on Saturday, though, the Giants defensive end decided he had enough.

PHILADELPHIA -- There are times when it's impossible not to like Odell Beckham Jr. He can be charming, honest and human. He's obviously a spectacular player. Plays like the one-handed touchdown catch he made on Sunday can make it almost easy to overlook his chronic immaturity.

But somehow it always comes back to that.

Chip Kelly a fit with Jets? 00:00:46
Marc Malusis and Jon Hein debate whether or not Chip Kelly would be a good fit with the Jets on their offensive staff.

The Eagles have denied the Jets' request to interview QB coach John DeFilippo for their offensive coordinator vacancy, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.

DeFilippo finished his first season as Eagles QB coach following one year as the Browns' offensive coordinator and three years as the Raiders' QB coach.

DeFilippo worked with rookie quarterback Carson Wentz in 2016, as the former No. 2 pick threw for 3,782 yards (most among rookies), 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions (tied for ninth in the league).

While the New York Giants are still alive in the postseason and head to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC wild-card round, their 2017 opponents became official on Sunday.

The Giants will have four road games on the West Coast next season, traveling to face the Arizona Cardinals, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders.

In addition to home and road games against their division rivals, New York will travel to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next year.

PHILADELPHIA -- Odell Beckham Jr. has spent all season battling the officials, so he certainly wasn't surprised by what he saw on Thursday. Once again, there were a series of inexplicable penalty calls and non-calls, and the Giants were pretty sure it all went against them.

"We know what it is over here," Beckham said after the Giants' 24-19 loss to the Eagles. "We know what it's always going to be. We're not looking for any calls. We've just got to play through it. That's the bottom line."

Ralph Vacchiano, SNY.TV:

PHILADELPHIA -- There were several common threads between the New York Giants' last two Super Bowl runs, but one of the most important ones was this: Eli Manning, in 2007 and 2011, played brilliantly when it mattered the most.

And that is absolutely not happening now.

There are reasons why, and it's not all Manning's fault, but that doesn't really matter as the Giants head (they hope) for their first playoff berth in five seasons. Manning, as the Giants' franchise quarterback, needs to find a way to rise above his team's problems and carry them on his shoulders, and he hasn't figured out how to do that with this team yet.

The Giants' 21-20 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals Monday night completed a clean sweep for the NFC East this weekend. All four teams won close ballgames to keep the order in the division for at least another week. The NFC East is the only one of the NFL's eight divisions where all four clubs have winning records.

First place Dallas (8-1, 2-1 in the division) won their eighth straight game, a thrilling 35-30 victory over the Steelers in Pittsburgh. Rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 114 yards with two touchdowns, including the game-winning 32-yard score with nine seconds remaining and had 95 receiving yards with a touchdown.

Giants QB Eli Manning was very productive in New York's 28-23 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, going 22-for-36 for 257 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.

While the two interceptions put a damper on the quarterback's stats, neither were necessarily Manning's fault. The first interception came when Nolan Carroll ripped the ball out of Odell Beckham Jr.'s hands on the way to the ground, a call that appeared to be very close and was reviewed by the officials, but not overturned. The second interception occurred in the game's final two minutes, when Connor Barwin deflected a pass intended for Will Tye at the line of scrimmage and Jordan Hicks was able to make a sliding catch before the ball hit the turf.

Odell Beckham turns 24 years old on Saturday. He's used to playing football in, on and around his birthday. Needless to say, he usually plays pretty well, too.

Last year on Nov. 1, OBJ had eight catches for 130 yards with three touchdowns in the Giants' 52-49 loss to the Saints in New Orleans. In his rookie year of 2014, he hauled in eight passes for 156 yards in a 40-24 loss at home to Indianapolis on Nov. 3.

This year, Beckham is nearly recovered from a hip ailment, claiming he is "85 percent." The hip issue hasn't hampered him too much, however. He hasn't missed a game and has looked pretty normal. The bye week has certainly helped him convalesce and he's ready to take it to the hated Eagles.

Christian Hackenberg discusses his performance in the Jets' 14-6 loss to the Eagles in the preseason finale.

Jets quarterback Bryce Petty threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson before injuring his shoulder, but a pair of big plays helped the Philadelphia Eagles beat the New York Jets 14-6 Thursday night.

Paul Turner returned a punt 71 yards for a touchdown and Ed Reynolds took an interception 90 yards for a score to help the Eagles (4-0) complete an undefeated preseason for the first time since 2012, when they finished 4-12 in Andy Reid's last season as coach.

Petty tossed a perfect strike down the right sideline that Anderson caught in stride after beating JaCorey Shepherd. But the second-year pro took a hard shot on the play and left with a shoulder injury. Petty didn't return even though the Jets said he was probable to come back.

Two longtime NFC East rivals find themselves in the same predicament for the first time decades. Both the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants are looking to hire a head coach at the same time since 1991, when both Buddy Ryan and Bill Parcells ended their tenures.

They were replaced by Rich Kotite and Ray Handley, respectively, and well, you know the rest. Both teams are hopeful they do better this time around. The usually stable Eagles are looking for their third coach in five years and the Giants are in the coaching search business for only the third time in 23 years.

While Tom Coughlin has been rumored to be on the hot seat, Chip Kelly, the Philadelphia Eagles' controversial and innovative head coach, has been fired with one game left in the season.

As the Giants and Eagles gear up for their season finale on Sunday, Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie fired Kelly on Tuesday after a disappointing 6-9 season and failing to reach the postseason for the second straight season.

Coughlin, who has led the Giants to the playoffs just once since 2009, may be coaching his last game on Sunday, too, but the Giants would never dump him during the season. They'll at least wait until the season is over, on what is typically known as "Black Monday."

While the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are both eliminated from the playoffs, their Week 17 matchup will determine who plays in London next season.

In addition to determining draft position, next week's regular-season finale will determine who plays the St. Louis Rams at Twickenham Stadium on Oct. 23, 2016 (Week 7).

Because NFL scheduling relies on how teams finish in the division, the Rams, who will finish third in the NFC West regardless how Week 17 shapes up, will play whichever team finishes in the same position in the NFC East standings next season. The Washington Redskins clinched the division and the Dallas Cowboys are locked in last place.

The Friday after Thanksgiving is always a laid-back day with very little excitement. This year, there is no excitement in the land of the Giants. They are officially out of the play off picture at 3-8 and are headed into NFL obscurity in a season where most teams are talking about how they can still grab a playoff spot.

The Giants will be practicing today in preparation for their trip to Jacksonville. They will head down to Florida tomorrow to play perhaps one of the NFL's most meaningless games of the year. Even with four teams in the NFC having off this past week, there was still some outcomes that affected my rankings. Seattle was able to turnaround a disastrous start against Tampa Bay and inch out a victory in overtime against the still winless Buccaneers; keeping them at the top spot in the NFC. The Saints however, were not so lucky as they suffered a stunning loss to the New York Jets on the road and showed that Drew Brees is indeed human. More importantly, the Green Bay Packers were without their star QB Aaron Rodgers for a majority of their Monday night loss against the Chicago Bears and will lose Rodgers for several weeks with a broken collarbone; shaking up the rankings even more. Here are my NFC Power Rankings for week 9...

?1. Seattle Seahawks?(8-1):?The Seahawks have been cutting it close when it comes down to these games. Each week they have been on the brink of defeat, and this week was no different. Down 21 points to the winless Buccaneers, all signs pointed to Seattle facing their first defeat at home since 2011. But the Seahawks and QB Russell Wilson were able to muster up a stunning comeback and leave CenturyLink Stadium with an overtime victory, keeping their streak at home alive. This team has shown tremendous resilience when they needed it the most. RB Marshawn Lynch had?his way with the Tampa Bay defense, carrying the ball 21 times for 121 yards. Should?Seattle be worried? I don't think so.?The way the Seahawks have strung together this steak is amazing and?when their backs have been up against the wall, even?against teams like the Rams and Buccaneers, they have found a way to walk away with a victory. This team is STILL the cream of the crop in the NFC.?Ranking last week: 1

A win streak is a win streak, but again, the Giants have plenty to work on offensively. Luckily it?s been the defense that has carried the team to two straight wins.

When looking at the box score of this game, you?d probably think that the Giants put together some impressive offensive drives.

Eli Manning completed 25 passes for 246 yards and didn?t turn the ball over for the second straight week. Two of his receivers ? Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks ? each caught seven passes. And Peyton Hillis ran for 70 yards on 20 carries.

Rookie QB Matt Barkley relieved Vick right before the half and took the Eagles deep into Giants' territory on a 10-play drive that ended when Terrell Thomas forced Barkely to fumble. The ball was recovered by Jacquian Williams on the Giants' 12 yard line.

Big Blue dropped to 0-5 Sunday with a 36-21 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but the worst thing about this game was the Giants were actually alive for most of the way and totally blew it late.

However, three Eli Manning interceptions in the fourth quarter sealed the Giants? losing fate. He continued to add to his league-lead in interceptions with now 12.

The swoon continues. The Giants came out and scored a TD on their first drive and then fell flat for the rest of the half. Mistakes and missed opportunities peppered a more spirited performance. The scoreboard says 19-7 Eagles, but it could be a lot worse right now.

Hakeem Nicks has 120 yards on six receptions.

David Wilson scored the only Giants' TD but sustained a neck injury shortly after and Rueben Randle appeared to have injured his wrist on many of the long passes Eli threw his way.

I?m honestly expecting a slugfest. I?m fully aware that the Giants have scored a total of just seven points the last two weekends, but the Eagles defense is filled with holes, especially in the secondary. My guess is that the Giants will still try to establish the run but only to set up big plays downfield. This is the week where I foresee Eli Manning breaking out and hitting all his weapons.

While the Eagles may be 1-3, they?ve shown they can score points offensively with Chip Kelly?s fast-paced system. I expect that continue, but Michael Vick is known for turning the ball over. But Vick is also known for giving the Giants fits, and that?s why I?m expecting a wild affair at MetLife. It?s going to be a real war out there, since both teams will be fighting for their lives ? which is a shame since it?s still very early in the season. This is the week the Giants finally get into the win column. It won?t be easy, and it likely won?t be pretty as far as an all-around effort. But getting win No. 1 is the first step to turning this season around.....Giants 34, Eagles 30
