Baseball America's Ben Badler reports that the Mets have signed 16-year old power-hitting third baseman Elvis Sanchez.? Sanchez, who is listed at 6'2", 195 from La Romana in the Dominican Republic was ranked by Baseball America as the 15th best international prospect this year. Before the signing deadline, Badler wrote that Sanchez,

"is one of the best power hitters in Latin America [with]... plus to plus-plus raw power that comes from his strength and bat speed...Sanchez will have to keep his conditioning in check, and several scouts

believe he will ultimately move to first base. He does have a plus arm."Mike Diaz pointed out that as a big, young third baseman with nice power and strength with conditioning issues who might have to move across the diamond to first, Sanchez sounds a lot like Aderlin Rodriguez, "not that it's a bad thing," he concluded.? I agree. Plus power is very rare and very valuable.? You can't go wrong adding power to the system.
