Starting RG Chris Snee did not participate in yesterday's OTA at TPC. He is still rehabbing from offseason hip surgery and probably won't do a whole lot before training camp. But he can watch, and he can help the new offensive lineman the Giants are bringing into camp this summer.

The Giants' top pick, Justin Pugh and seventh-rounder Eric Herman are the two players the Giants hope can bolster their aging, sagging offensive line. Snee knows they will be leaning on him for counsel and some pointers.

"The time's come and we're certainly not getting any younger," Snee told reporters yesterday. "From what I've seen and heard, this kid (Pugh) is a good guy who will fit in our locker and meeting room well. He's a hard worker. He doesn't know it, but I've been sitting back kind of watching him.? He works and so does the other guy. Herman works hard, too. Those are guys we'd like to have around here."

The New York Giants and guard Eric Herman have agreed to terms on a four-year contract, according to reports.

Herman, the No. 225 pick in the draft out of Ohio, will likely begin the year on the Giants practice squad. In time, however, he could find a position on the aging offensive line.

At 6-foot-4 and 320 pounds, Herman had 36 bench-press reps during the NFL Combine. The Giants' seventh-round draft pick earned All-MAC second team honors for the second straight year his senior season after recording team-highs in pancakes and knockdowns.

GM Jerry Reese feels Ohio OL Eric Herman will compete for a spot on the O-Line.

After a season of watching his team get manhandled by opponents week after week, Giants CEO John Mara sent a mandate to executives on the football side to retool the trenches. On defense, they brought in three new tackles. On offense, they are bringing back all their starters from last season plus two draft picks: the top choice, Justin Pugh of Syracuse, and a seventh-round selection out of Ohio by the name of Eric Herman.

It's way too early to tell who will deliver and who will not, but the Giants may have found their new Rich Seubert in Herman. Then again, they may have another Mitch Petrus on their hands.

A tradition like none other: the Giants turning heads with their draft class.

The Giants had seven picks in this weekend's draft, adding depth to a number of key positions, including offensive and defensive line, running back and the secondary. Of course, a position that remained untouched was linebacker.
