According to tweets from Pavel Lysenkov, the KHL has instituted the following rules for players who wish to play in the KHL during the lockout.

From the KHL release:

The criteria applied to foreign NHL:?- to hold at least 150 games in the NHL over the last three seasons?- have experience of playing in the NHL,?- a member of the national team of his country in one of the last two World Championships, World Youth Championships or Olympic games;?- to be a winner or finalist for the Stanley Cup and the winner of one of the individual prizes, is awarded to the National Hockey League for the season.

Before enrolling at the University of Michigan, Carl Hagelin played for the Swedish team S?dert?lje on their under 18 and on their under 20 teams.

The director of S?dert?lje told Swedish Paper Expressen that they would like to see Hagelin, along with other former S?dert?lje players, return there during a lockout.

Hagelin is on a two-way contract and can end up in Hartford according to the report.

According to Swedish Paper, Expressen, Henrik Lundqvist said that he will not sit out an entire season if the NHL season is lost and that after waiting for a little while he will return home to Sweden and play for Frolunda.

At TampaBay.com, Marty St. Louis talked about how if there is a lockout he is planning to go to Europe to continue his hockey career.

St. Louis cautioned though that players will take their time before making a decision, but it's something that will definitely be considered

The Swedish Elite League, via Mirtle, has announced that they will not allow any contracts with players from the NHL that aren't intended to be honored throughout the whole season.

In 2004-05, when the entire season was cancelled players flocked to the Swedish Elite League.

Henrik Lundqvist led Frolunda to the Swedish Elite League Championship that season.

In the Toronto Sun, Terry Koshan writes that Europe may not be that open for North American players to play in if there is a lockout.

Slots to import players, from 2-7 depending on the league, is a big reason why players may not be able to go to Europe as many of those slots have been filled for this season.

He writes that while the KHL may open up to bring in North American players, a league like the Swedish Elite League probably wouldn't.
