I was planning on writing a long piece outlining the pros and cons of Travis Zajac's new deal and how it affects the Devils and their cap structure going forward, but then I read this piece from the always fantastic blog In Lou We Trust and I realized I would be speaking vain. I very much believe in giving credit where credit is due and this, sir, deserves a lot of credit. READ

According to Ralph Vacchiano, the Giants have extended DE/OLB Mathias Kiwanuka through 2015. His contract was set to expire after the 2012 season.

Kiwanuka finally looked comfortable at linebacker last season, and he was a key cog in the Giants' defense. He?totaled?an impressive 84 tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one interception. If he can continue to play at this high level, Jerry Reese has made a smart move in locking him up.

The obvious fallout from this is what it means in terms of the Osi Umenyiora situation. Although Kiwanuka is technically a linebacker now, he is often used to rush the passer, and is always one injury away from being shifted back to the defensive line. Umenyiora can't be happy that Kiwanuka is being extended while he is not.
