Dustin Keller is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and the tight end has made it no secret that he is?looking for a long-term extension from the Jets. Although?Keller's representatives have approached the team about working on a deal, those initial talks have not resulted in much progress, leaving a frustrated Keller to play the waiting game.
Kiwanuka finally looked comfortable at linebacker last season, and he was a key cog in the Giants' defense. He?totaled?an impressive 84 tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one interception. If he can continue to play at this high level, Jerry Reese has made a smart move in locking him up.
The obvious fallout from this is what it means in terms of the Osi Umenyiora situation. Although Kiwanuka is technically a linebacker now, he is often used to rush the passer, and is always one injury away from being shifted back to the defensive line. Umenyiora can't be happy that Kiwanuka is being extended while he is not.
