George McPhee

George McPhee spent last season scouting for the Islanders, and has now been hired?as a special advisor to general manager Garth Snow.

The team announced the hire shortly before 11 AM on Wednesday morning as the team prepared for it's second preseason game at Barclays Center this season. McPhee was the Washington Capitals general manager for 17 years before he was fired on April 26, 2014.

A former Washington Capitals General Manager is scouting for the Islanders, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman.

In his latest "30 Thoughts" column, Friedman reported that George McPhee has been doing some part-time scouting for the Islanders. More from Friedman:

McPhee served as the Capitals General Manager for 17 years before he was let go on April 26. His tenure as GM was the longest in Capitals history.
