On Wednesday night, the Nets defeated the Boston Celtics by a final score of 101-93.

The Skinny: The Celtics raced out to the early lead, relying on hot three-point shooting to open an eight-point lead. But Joe Johnson found his outside stroke, and the Nets responded with a 13-2 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers by C.J. Watson. Brooklyn led by one after one.

Deron Williams took control offensively to open the second quarter, helping to increase the Nets? lead to six. Boston?s second unit immediately fought back to regain the lead, but from there the Nets went on a 15-4 run to lead by 10 at the break. D-Will scored 11 points in the quarter, and things began to get chippy as Kevin Garnett picked up a technical foul for a skirmish with Reggie Evans.

On Saturday night, the Nets defeated the Charlotte Bobcats by a final score of 105-96.

The Skinny: The Nets dominated the interior to start, with 10 of the team?s first 12 points coming in the paint. But the Bobcats relied on offensive rebounds and second-chance points to stay in the game. Charlotte?s Gerald Henderson managed nine first-quarter points, but Brooklyn led by six after one.

Andray Blatche was unstoppable to start the second quarter, scoring the first eight Nets? points in the frame. Ben Gordon ? who the Nets had interest in at the NBA trade deadline ? and Jannero Pargo helped the Bobcats tie the game and take the lead after combining for 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting by the halfway mark of the quarter. Brook Lopez got the Nets get back close, and a fade-away jumper by Joe Johnson put Brooklyn back ahead. A Nets? bad turnover at the end of the first half led to an easy lay-up from Henderson, which gave the Bobcats a one-point lead heading into the break.

On Wednesday night, the Nets defeated the Charlotte Bobcats by a final score of 99-78.

The Skinny: After making two of their first three, the Nets missed six straight shots early in the first quarter, allowing the Bobcats to orchestrate a 16-2 run to open a 12-point lead. Following a P.J. Carlesimo timeout, the Nets went on a 12-4 run to get back within one. Five three-pointers from Brooklyn in the quarter kept the game close, as the Nets trailed by three after one.

The Nets took the lead to start the second, but hot shooting from Ben Gordon off the bench put the Bobcats right back on top. Gordon scored Charlotte?s first 12 points of the second quarter, and a 13-2 run put the Bobcats up 10. Charlotte maintained that 10-point lead into the break.

Gerald Wallace was acquired last season by the Brooklyn Nets via trade for the sixth pick in this year draft to be a leader and defensive stopper.? The pick went to Portland where they selected the multi-talented Damian Lillard.

Wallace has career averages of 13 points, six rebounds and two assists per game in his 11 year career while shooting 47 percent from the field.? Right now, Wallace is averaging career lows in all of these categories and is shooting an abysmal 41 percent.

The year did not start off well for Wallace when he turned his ankle on opening night when the Nets opened Barclays center with a win over the Toronto Raptors.

It certainly has been an interesting beginning to the Nets? tenure in Brooklyn.

A roaring start was followed by a terrible stretch resulting in the firing of Avery Johnson. P.J. Carlesimo looked like he was the savior of the franchise, but an inconsistent stretch recently has brought the team back down to earth at the break.

After C.J. Watson?s one-point performance in Monday?s win over the Pacers, he was bound to have a better game Wednesday night against the Nuggets.

Watson not only had a better game, but he also turned in his best performance of the year with a season-high 25 points and six assists.

On Monday night, the Nets defeated the Indiana Pacers by a final score of 89-84 in overtime.

The Skinny: Brook Lopez scored 10 of the Nets? first 13 points, as Brooklyn set up quick offensive sets to combat the Pacers? No. 2 ranked defense. Indiana?s defense improved slightly, but the team?s shooting was way off in the opening frame (6-of-25 from the field). The Nets led by seven after one.

Jeff Pendergraph?s outside shooting led to 10 points, which helped the Pacers tie the game halfway through the second quarter as part of a 15-5 run. Brooklyn native Lance Stephenson gave Indiana the lead later in the quarter. George Hill hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer to give the Pacers a five-point lead at the break.

NEW YORK ? After hanging on late for a close win Friday night over the Chicago Bulls, Deron Williams was not in the mood to worry about the Los Angeles Lakers coming to town. He said it was too early to even think about that with the imminent three-day rest.

But that three-day break is now over, and Williams and the Nets are gearing up for their Tuesday night matchup with the Lakers.

The realm of sports is classic for descriptive nicknames that highlight an athlete?s prowess.

Cal Ripken Jr., who played in a record 2,632 consecutive baseball games, was aptly nicknamed ?The Iron Man.?

The Nets are yet to officially announce a timetable for Gerald Wallace's return. In case you missed it, Wallace took a nasty spill in the third quarter of the Nets Jan. 11 game against the Phoenix Suns. He left the game and was unable to play against the Pacer's on Jan. 13.

He has also been ruled out for tonight, but it doesn't sound like a return may be that far away.

NEW YORK ? The Nets went back to the future by signing Damion Jones to a 10-day contract. After being selected in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft, James?selected by the Atlanta Hawks before being traded to the Nets?spent two years with the club before his third year rookie option was declined.

James began this NBA season as a member of the NBDL's Bakersfield Jam. He averaged 15.5 points and 7.3 rebounds in 28.9 minutes per game. Having seemingly proven himself on the NBA's smaller stage, the Nets opted to sign James to a 10-day contract and give him the 15th and final roster spot that was opened up when the club waived Josh Childress back on Dec. 29.

NEW YORK ? The Brooklyn Nets were flying high only a couple of weeks ago, having defeated the New York Knicks at Barclays Center in the first ever "Battle of the Boroughs."

At 9-4, the Nets had the same record as the Knicks but were technically in first place in the Atlantic Division by virtue of the tiebreaker.

NEW YORK ? After seeing the Brooklyn Nets drop their fifth home game in their last six attempts last night to the Utah Jazz, who came into the game with a 4-10 road record, I was curious as to how the game unfolded from the very last play to the beginning of the third quarter, when the Nets held a 13-point lead.

With just over one fourth of the 2012-2013 NBA season complete, the Brooklyn Nets sit at 13-10 ? good enough for second place in the Atlantic Division and fifth place overall in the Eastern Conference.

Not bad for a team that owned a 58-172 record the previous three seasons.

He has affectionately become known as "Crash," mainly because of the reckless way with which he plays the game.

In order to be successful, the Nets need Brook Lopez. And after missing all but five games last season, the concerns about his health were very real. That concern, though, extended to the rest of the team.

Heading into the season, the main key for the new-look Brooklyn Nets was developing chemistry, but health was a close second.

Talk about a dubious distinction? Reggie Evans was the first player to be warned for flopping and now the Nets are the first team to have two unique individuals cited by the NBA for antics detrimental to the league.

You make the call on Wallace... Was this a flop?

There?s a chance Gerald Wallace will return to the Nets? lineup Tuesday night when the Nets play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but in his absence, the Nets have managed better than expected.

Any team?s defense will take a hit losing a defender like Wallace, but the Nets have not let that loss cripple them. Brooklyn has won two straight against the Magic after tough losses to the Timberwolves and Heat.

Last season, Nets general manager Billy King traded forward Shawne Williams, the expiring contract of Mehmet Okur, and a conditional first-round pick (Damian Lillard) to the Portland Trail Blazers for forward Gerald Wallace at the trade deadline.

The move appeared risky at first glance. Wallace was in the final year of his contract and gave no indication he would re-sign and join the Nets in Brooklyn.

With all the wheeling and dealing the Brooklyn Nets did this offseason, it?s almost easy to forget one of the team?s most important transactions: re-signing power forward Kris Humphries to a two-year, $24 million deal.

The 235-pound rebounding machine has been a major part of the Nets? offense the past two seasons, and he?ll once again be counted on this season to produce.
