With six games remaining, here's how the NFC East stands...

The Eagles staved off a late run by RGIII and the Redskins to take sole possession of first place. They will get a bye in Week 12. Washington, feeling the wrath of having a drawn a first-place schedule, host San Francisco next Monday night.

The Cowboys were off yesterday, a much-needed bye to say the least. They play the Giants at MetLife this coming Sunday. A Cowboys win moves them into a first-place tie with Philadelphia. A Giants win drops Dallas into a second place tie with New York.

Was it perfect? No.

But the Giants found a way to win their fourth straight game in a 27-13 contest over the Packers, and unlike some of the recent wins, there were at least a good chunk of positives to take away from Big Blue?s offensive performance.

Victor Cruz was again at the top of his game, catching eight passes for 110 yards. Everyone else was efficient enough in helping the Giants get the win.

It's all good tonight for Giants fans. Sure, it was another win over a questionable QB, but it was still an NFL game. I believe the logo was prominently placed at midfield. I'll take a win over a loss anytime.

What I liked.....

Jon Beason and Terrell Thomas. These guys are bringing it.

The Giants haven't played a pretty game yet this season and you can add today's game to that list. But there is no column for style points in the standings. All there are is wins and losses.

Green Bay came in here without their starting QB (Aaron Rodgers) and several key defenders and fought the Giants to the very last minute. They were in the game because the Giants struggled through penalties and lapses and yet another miscommunication between their QB and a receiver that took points off the board.

The Packers came in ready to play behind Scott Tolzien at QB and have hung with the Giants so far through the first half. But..... for the most part it has been the Giants just misfiring and shooting themselves in the foot again that is keeping this game close.

New York opened the scoring when Rueben Randle returned a punt 32-yards and then followed it up with a 26-yard TD catch on a pass from QB Eli Manning to give the Giants a 7-0 lead. The teams traded FGs after that.

As time expired, Green Bay PK hit a 57-yard FG narrow the Giants' lead to 10-6.

The Giants attempt to make it four in a row today. I would be mildly surprised if they didn't...

First off, I'l be watching the results of the Redskins-Eagles game. Should Washington win, the division gets as tight as one could imagine: Dallas 5-5, Philadelphia 5-6, Washington 4-6 and should the Giants win, 4-6.

We definitely cannot sleep on the Packers just because Aaron Rodgers has been ruled inactive. Granted, the Packers are a completely different team with Rodgers at the helm, but all the offensive weapons are still pretty much the same.

And as for Scott Tolzien, other than two interceptions last Sunday against the Eagles, he actually didn?t do too bad. But the Giants? defense is playing much better than the Eagles? defense.

Back to respectability (at least for Week 6) after a few tough weeks.

I won with the Giants and Steelers. The Bengals won but did not cover against the Bills, and I admit I was a bit overzealous in thinking the Broncos would cover the 27-point spread.

When the New York Giants aren?t going right, it often takes being faced with as tough a challenge as the Giants can face to bring out the best in them.

And, perhaps some added incentive from a participant in the Make-A-Wish Foundation program, can also help.

Who can predict this crazy league? The Green Bay Packers came in here riding a five-game winning streak and the Giants were clinging to the ledge, hoping not to slip down into the slop that has become the NFC East. This game was supposed to be a nail-biter.

It wasn't. The Giants (7-4) pounded, diced and sliced the Packers (7-4) all night long, creating errors and then cashing in on them. They turned a potential shootout between Aaron Rodgers and Eli Manning into a non-event.

Almost everything went their way. They needed no luck to beat the Packers this time around. The final was Giants 38, Green Bay 10.

SNYGiants staff prediction for tonight's Giants-Packers showdown

Kel Dansby: The Giants will return from this bye week refreshed and refocused but it wont be enough to pull out the win over the Packers. Eli will find a way to make the game close late in the 4th quarter but the defense will give up points on the last drive and the Giants will fall short at home. This seems like the statement loss for the Giants this season; the past two Super Bowl seasons the Giants used losses to the Packers and Patriots to motivate them through their late season push. The Giants dusted off the 15-1 Packers last January in the NFC Playoffs en route to the Super Bowl. Green Bay called that win lucky. This past summer, in an interview with YaHoo Sports, Packers LB Clay Matthews said:

"We picked the most inopportune time to play our worst ball. The fact is, they didn?t beat us; we beat ourselves. We need to play our best ball when it counts. This year, I expect us to be right back where we should be.?
The Giants, naturally didn't really buy into Matthews' assessment. At the time, DE Justin Tuck simply said the matter would be settled on the field. Yesterday, Tom Coughlin was asked the difference between last year's road playoff win and the regular season home loss to Green Bay:

"Well, I think we were playing better. Obviously, we played very, very well that day and quite frankly we were plus-three in Green Bay. We were minus-one here and plus-three in Green Bay."
Green Bay head coach Mike McCarthy was asked if losing to the Giants in the playoffs last year has anything to do with this year"
"I don?t think so. It?s part of our preparation. I think it?s only natural when you play a team the prior year, and obviously we played the Giants twice last year, it?s part of our video study. That?s really about as far as it goes. We?ve had the offseason to deal with how our season ended and we?re really just focused on the video study and what they?ve done to date. We?re going to come out and play our game."
The LoudMouths discuss whether the Packers or Giants are looking for revenge in Sunday's game.

Tom Coughlin said this morning he expected Green Bay's All-Pro LB Clay Mathews (hamstring) to be on the field vs the Giants Sunday night.

"He?s in. That?s the plan,"?Coughlin said when asked if the Giants were preparing for a Matthews-less Packer D. "That?s the way we approach it. He?s in. I?ll tell you, the other kids that have played for him, they played pretty well."

That was before Packers' head coach Mike McCarthy spoke this afternoon, stating Matthews, who missed last week's game in Detroit, is doubtful:

GREEN BAY PACKERS (7-3) AT NEW YORK GIANTS (6-4) (Sunday, NBC, 8:20 PM ET)

The Packers have won five in a row ? tied with Denver for the longest current winning streak in the NFL ? and will look to avenge last season?s Divisional loss to the Giants.

In Week 11, Green Bay rallied and scored the winning points with 1:55 remaining on a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Aaron Rodgers to wide receiver Randall Cobb in the team?s 24-20 victory at Detroit. In his past seven games, Rodgers has 24 touchdowns and just four interceptions for a 117 passer rating. Cobb has six touchdown receptions in the team?s past four games and he aims for his fifth in a row with a TD.

There's a lot of familiarity between the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers. They know each other fairly well, having played one another twice over the past 13 months.

The Giants are well aware of QB Aaron Rodgers' improvisational skills and his legendary escapability. They know about how players like LB Clay Matthews and WR Jordy Nelson have to be accounted for at all times. They know that WR Donald Driver still has gas in that old tank of his and that RB John Kuhn can hurt them by catching the ball out of the backfield.

To a man, the staff at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel picks the Packers to send the Giants home Sunday night with a resounding "L"....

TOM SILVERSTEIN: This game will be either really close or a blowout. I've gone back and forth with my pick, but home-field advantage will slow the get-off of the Giants' defensive line and I think a simplified game plan on defense might be good enough to keep Eli Manning and Co. in check. Packers 34, Giants 16.

GARY D'AMATO: We keep hearing this Giants team is different from the one the Packers dismantled late in the regular season last year and beat again earlier this season. Different, how? The Packers are healthy, rested and at home and as if they didn't have enough motivation are dedicating the game to Joe Philbin. Packers 38, Giants 20.

In the playoffs, regular-season statistics and records mean little. Last year, the San Diego Chargers led the NFL in both total offense and total defense. They didn't make the playoffs.

Brandon Jacobs is rarely at a loss for words. He's become Mr. Giant this year, though, with every game possibly being his last. He had to take a pay cut before the season to accomodate the contract of backfield mate Ahmad Bradshaw, but it has been him that has been spearheading the return of the Giants' rushing attack.

Jacobs met with the media on Thursday....here are some highlights

If the Giants are going to have any shot at upsetting the defending champs, they're going to need to get positive performances from some key players. I'm not talking about the obvious guys like Eli Manning or the defensive linemen; if those guys don't play near perfect games, the Giants have no shot. I'm talking about the guys who can be the X-factor like the David Tyree and Kevin Boss in Super Bowl 42.

Aaron Ross and Prince Amukamara

Neither of these guys are lacking in talent. Ross has had an up-and-down season, showing flashes of first round brilliance, but he has struggled even more consistently. Amukamara has had a rough go of it in his rookie season due to injuries and lack of practice time. Whether or not the defensive line can get to Aaron Rodgers, these guys are going to have their hands full trying to contain the Packers' impressive stable of receivers.
