Giants Ring of Honor

The Giants Ring of Honor contains all the pertinent figures in the 88 year history of the franchise. In 2011, the team added five more names: Alex Webster, Dave Jennings, Brad Van Pelt, Mark Bavaro and Carl Banks.

As players retire and/or we revisit some former Giants' contributions to the club, we compiled a list of some more names that could possibly be added to the Ring:

DE Leonard Marshall

Dave Jennings, longtime Giants punter and broadcast, passed away on Wednesday at 61.

Back in the dark days of the 1970s, Giant fans had little to cheer for. When your punter is arguably your best player, that's a telling sign you're a team in trouble.

But that was the truth. Dave Jennings, who passed away today after a long illness, was the Giants' savior and safety blanket during a period where hope was absent and wins were hard to find. He was one of the game's greatest punters (his stats don't tell the tale, so stop right there), providing relief to a team that needed all the help it could get.

Former Giant greats TE Mark Bavaro, LB Carl Banks, LB Brad Van Pelt, P Dave Jennings and RB/Head Coach Alex Webster will be enshrined in the Giants Ring of Honor Sunday night at halftime.

Bavaro, the prototypical Giant TE who became a fan favorite with his silent toughness, was a favorite target of QB Phil Simms on the Giants' 1986 Super Bowl team.

Here is a tribute video we found of Giants' great Tiki Barber set to the song "Run Runaway" by Slade.

Like it or not, Barber was one of the greatest players in Giants history.? For those who dislike him, it's only because he left them wanting more. He never gave less than 110% on the field and as a competitor had more heart than most players you'll find these days...

Like George Costanza, Barber left on a high note.? In his last regular season game as a Giant, Tiki rushed for 234 yards and 3 TDs to lift Big Blue past Washington and into the playoffs

In addition to Giants great Frank Gifford (the video is linked on the previous post), I filmed Harry Carson and George Martin.

Here is Carson on a plethora of issues.....

"It's a terrific feeling to be selected as one of the members of the Ring of Honor. I don't know much about it at all. All I know is that I have to be there. It's quite an honor and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone?there."

Sunday night, the Giants will unveil their version of the Ring of Honor. They have already announced six of the 30 names to be enshrined: Phil Simms, Bill Parcells, Michael Strahan, Tiki Barber, Frank Gifford and Pete Gogolak.

So, who will be the other 24...?

I have a pretty good idea. There will be at least five more non-players: GM George Young, coaches Steve Owen and Jim Lee Howell and owners Wellington Mara and Bob Tisch.
