Giants cornerback Eli Apple said he did not play on defense during Sunday's 23-0 loss to the Arizona Cardinals due to a "coach's decision," he told Newsday's Tom Rock.
"It was a coach's decision," Apple said. "That's all I have to say. Ask the coach, man. Have a good one."
Apple, who played in last week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, had missed four games earlier this season. Two games he missed due to a back/hip injury, and he was a healthy scratch in two other games to be with his mother, who had been recovering from brain surgery.
Apple has recorded 49 combined tackles and eight passes defensed this season. As a rookie in 2016, he recorded 51 combined tackles, seven passes defensed and one interception in 14 games.
