Eli Manning's father, Archie, said Eli is "hurt" by his benching and is pondering a potential future without the Giants for the first time ever.
"This breaks his heart," Archie Manning told Gary Myers of the NY Daily News. "And that's okay. It's supposed to."
Manning, 36, was informed on Tuesday that he would be benched in favor of Geno Smith, though the decision is really about getting a look at Davis Webb, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Archie Manning, who said Eli is "not bitter," noted that his son "absolutely loves" being the quarterback of the Giants, but is unsure what the future will hold.
"I don't think Eli ever envisioned, until now, playing for somebody else," he said. "That's the love he has for the Giants. It is kind of unique and stronger than most. It's not just the game he loves to play. He loves to play for the Giants."
