Osi was at the Play 60 event at Chelsea Piers today, and I was in the circle of reporters who were gathered around him attempting to find out whether he's staying or going.
"I'm hoping the Giants do the best thing for them, and in the process do the best thing for me also," Osi told us. He also said that he and the team have had "preliminary discussions, nothing serious" in regards to a new contract.
He revealed that he "loved the Giants" and that a trade to another team could actually be a good thing for him.
"There's this misconception that I can't play the run," he said. "Partly because of some of the games I had in the past and partly because of the way the Giants used me. That's not accurate over these last few years. I've done a good job doing that and I think another team will give me that opportunity."
The 30 year-old DE knows his trade value is at its peak right now. The Giants could get a third round pick right now for him, or they can allow him to play and take their chances with him in free agency. They would then be awarded a compensatory pick for him (or maybe not, depending on the Giants loss-gain ratio).
