The Baker Mayfield-Daniel Jones comments saga continued on Tuesday with Mayfield walking back his statement that it "blows my mind" the Giants drafted Jones sixth overall back in April.

"I cannot believe the Giants took Daniel Jones," Mayfield said in a lengthy interview with GQ's Clay Skipper.

Now, with media outlets aggreagating the story everywhere, Mayfield decided to comment under Barstool Sports post to defend himself. Here's the full quote...

"This is not what I said....just so we're clear," Mayfield said. "I also said I was surprised I got drafted number one. Then was talking about the flaws in evaluating QB's. Where I brought up winning being important. Reporters and media will do anything to come up with a click bait story. Heard nothing but good things and wish nothing but the best for Daniel."

The Giants didn't seem bothered at all by Mayfield's comments. Jones was asked multiple times to react, but he kept calm as usual.

"I try not to listen to much that's said," Jones explained. "I think I've done a pretty good job of that. ...I'm focused on what I'm doing here."

Head coach Pat Shurmur called it "not original commentary," talking about the many critics that have bashed the Giants' selection. Jones' teammates in Dexter Lawrence and Evan Engram also spoke up a little more on his behalf.

"It's kind of dumb," Engram told NJ Advance Media.

"There's two types of people in this world. There's people who run their mouths and cry for attention and there's people who put their head down, get to work and get stuff done. That's everything Daniel's been doing."

Lawrence added: "I played against him in college and he did his thing. You know we can just control what we can control. He comes in and works hard every day and he deserves respect, but I guess he's got to go and earn it."

As has been the case since Odell Beckham Jr.'s GQ interview, the Giants are not going to entertain a feud of words this preseason. They're focused on the new season, and any outside noise won't be affecting their goal of returning to a winning team.

"Quite frankly, on our list of issues of the day, it really doesn't matter what Odell or Baker say. There's many other things that we should probably be discussing," Shurmur said.
