The Denver Broncos picked up kicker Brandon McManus from the Giants (Schefter, Aug. 26). The Giants will get a conditional seventh-round pick from Denver.

McManus was due to be waived today, but the Giants decided to accept the Broncos' trade offer for him instead.

The Broncos will reportedly be without their main kicker Matt Prater after his four-game suspension from the NFL.

Josh Brown, whom the Giants went with over McManus, predicted on Tuesday that the rookie would be an NFL kicker in under 48 hours. It took barely two.

"He’s a really good field goal kicker," Brown sad of McManus. "It’s just the way the competition worked out with the numbers and the lack of field goal attempts in preseason games, I’m sure that’s part of it. I had a good year last year, so I’m sure all of that plays into it."

"They both did a really good job," said head caoch Tom Coughlin. "I think Brandon will kick in this league. He is a very powerful man. He needs to work on some of the finer kicks, but certainly demonstrated his ability to drive the ball through the end zone, which is a tremendous asset."

One wonders if Brown is actually the winner here. The Giants are widely projected as a playoff contender while the Broncos are the favorites to win the AFC. Sure, McManus is unlikely to be a part of that but you never know...
