He's coming back to the area with the NFC's top-rated team and will play this Sunday in the stadium that will host the Super Bowl in less than two months.
"No, we’re not looking at it that way," Carroll told reporters Wednesday. "We’re just trying to get there and get focused on this game and take care of business and we’ve talked about that a long ways down the road. That really shouldn’t be in our business at all right now."
Carroll's team will face the Giants, a team that has been the complete opposite of his crew this season. He's taking no chances. The Giants are 3-3 at home this season and Seattle, although undefeated at home, have lost twice on the road in 2013.
"What we see is a team that has really turned their season around," Carroll said. "From the start they had, they bounced back and they found their rhythm and the defense has played terrific and they continue to take care of the ball. They turned their games around. They started winning like crazy.......Their defense is so tough and so good upfront that you can feed off of that. We respect the staff and these players and what they’ve done and their ability to bounce back, which was demonstrated by the challenges of this year. We know that they’ll bounce back again this week. Tom’s always been tough in the end of seasons. We expect them to play really well and it’s going to be hard on us."
The Giants have several of Carroll's USC alums on their roster (Keith Rivers, T2, Allen Bradford) and he expressed some pride in having those players come from his system. He especially lauded Thomas, who has rebounded after having three reconstructive knee surgeries:
"I think it’s extraordinary. I mean very few guys could ever do what he’s done. His resolve and his competitiveness have just come through. He was always a fantastic kid and tough minded and demanding of himself. This is like beyond. I can’t even imagine having to face the surgery again and then go through what you have to get through to make it back and to stay through that. And then come back and play the way he’s been playing, he’s all over the place. I think it’s a great tribute to the kid.... To specialize that thought with what T2 has done, that’s amazing that he could pull that off. That’s a ‘fight on’ spirit coming through."
