Former Giants MLB Chase Blackburn, a key member of two Super Bowl teams, has tweeted that he will be joining the Carolina Panthers this season. The deal is reportedly for two years.
Longtime Giants exec Dave Gettleman is in his first season as GM down in Charlotte. Blackburn will be the first ex-Giant he's signed since taking over. From Rotoworld:
He'll serve as experienced insurance for injury-prone 'backers Thomas Davis and Jon Beason. Blackburn manned the middle for the G-Men last season, but won't play a snap there in Carolina provided Luke Kuechly stays healthy.
Blackburn was a fan favorite here in NY, and will be missed. Sure there are better options at MLB (and Dan Connor still has to prove that he's one) but few will have more heart. We wish him well.
