"Playing in New York would be attractive. For playing for (the Giants) would be a dream," the Syracuse alum said.
Freeney, who grew up a New York Giants fan, could very well be courted by his hometown club. Should the team fail to come to terms with Osi Umenyiora, there may be an opening along its defensive front.
Of course the seven-time Pro Bowler will draw interest from other teams. Already his former teammate, Peyton Manning, has made a pitch to reunite in Denver.
"He sent me a text and he just said, 'Hey man, don't worry, come play with me in Denver,' " Freeney told "PFT Live". "I don't know how serious it was but, you know, it's good to hear some of your former teammates still follow you, they care and they want to see you succeed."
Last season, Freeney recorded five sacks and a dozen tackles in 14 games. Whether the decline in production can be attributed to age (33) or playing outside linebacker for the first time in his career has yet to be determined.
