On Thursday, GM Jerry Reese stated that QB Eli Manning was "out of spring ball", but the team expected to see him back in the summer. Translation: Eli and his sugically-repaired ankle will be ready for the club's training camp in July.
"He’ll be back when he gets back but we’re not going to rush him back," said Reese. "We want him for the summer. We know he’ll be back in the summer. That’s important for us, to have him back in the summer. If he can do something in the spring, we’ll be happy to see him out there but we’re not going to rush him back."While this was going on, Eli was telling the folks at Steiner Sports that he's ready to return a lot sooner that expected. “I’m off all crutches,” Manning said on the video (see below). “Out of the boot. Doing some running, doing some drops. So it’s coming around fast.”We still don't expect to see him doing much of anything during the OTAs or even at the team's minicamp, which will be held from June 17-19. The Giants are auditioning backup QBs this spring to safeguard themselves should Eli have a relapse. The Giants will try to avoid that scenario by keeping Eli on the shelf as long as possible.
