Herman released a statement through the NFL Players Association:
“The NFL requires a therapeutic use exemption for permission to take certain medications. I have a TUE for one medication, but not another stimulant that treats the same condition. Unfortunately, a stimulant for which I don’t have a TUE was in my body, and the rules are very strict so I am taking responsibility for my mistake. I sincerely apologize to my teammates and coaches. I will not make the same mistake in the future, and I will spend the four weeks working hard to be ready to return to work.”Herman was drafted in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, out of Ohio.
He was on the Giants' practice squad during last season.
The suspension saves Herman the indignity of being cut for the second straight season by the Giants. The former Ohio U product was drafted for his ability to battle in the trenches, but we haven't seen that player emerge as of yet.
Herman was listed as the team's third-string center, but the reality was he could only make the team as a guard, if at all. He was behind a slew of players on the depth chart at guard, and with the Giants keeping only ten OL at the most, he was looking at the practice squad or the street anyway.
