New Giants GM Dave Gettleman wasted no time in beginning to try and shake up the Giants putrid offensive line as mere days into his tenure, he waived Bobby Hart.
In the days since, reports have come out suggesting that Hart and Ereck Flowers weren't exactly widely respected among their peers. Each had reportedly "checked out" and asked to sit out the Giants final game. They got their wish, as Hart was waived and Flowers was inactive.
Amid an article detailing the Giants abysmal 2017 season, Jordan Ranaan of ESPN highlighted some other interesting tidbits about Hart and Flowers.
According to the report, Hart and Flowers alienated themselves from the offensive line. They didn't attend o-line dinners, movies or even their Secret Santa. Ranaan also quoted a pair of anonymous Giants. One said they'd "never seen anything like those guys" and the other said "you can't play with them."
On top of that, Flowers irked fellow linemen by being uninterested in any piece of advice from veterans.
The Giants GM job was quite an attractive one this offseason, though it was far from perfect. Irrespective of on the field issues, Gettleman inherited a toxic locker room situation. Besides the offensive line, the well-covered Eli Apple situation among other suspensions gives Gettleman plenty to consider.
Throw in the impending contract extensions for Odell Beckham Jr and Landon Collins, and Gettleman sure has no shortage of matters to tend.
