Falcons' QB Matt Ryan sustained an injury to his non-throwing shoulder in Sunday's NFC Championship Game loss to San Francisco and has dropped out of this Sunday's Pro Bowl.
Ryan is the third NFC QB to drop out of the game. Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers and Robert Griffin III of Washington were also forced to cancel due to injury.
In their place are New Orleans' Drew Brees and Manning. Ryan's replacement was named yesterday (Seattle's Russell Wilson).
Some other positions needed to be filled as nine 49ers will miss the game to prepare for the Super Bowl.
Six defenders needed replacing: LB NaVorro Bowman, LB Patrick Willis, FS Dashon Goldson, OLB Aldon Smith, DT Justin Smith and SS Donte Whitner.
Bowman and Willis will be replaced by Arizona's Daryl Washington and the Redskins' London Fletcher. Aldon Smith's spot is being filled by Dallas' Anthony Spencer. Detroit's Ndamukong Suh has been tabbed to take Justin Smith's place.
Right now, with Whitner and Goldson heading to New Orleans, the NFC only has one safety on the roster - Seattle's Earl Thomas. Stevie Brown finished fourth in the voting at safety and we thought he would be called upon to fill the vacancy at SS. But that will now go to Atlanta's William Moore. The FS slot will be filled by teammate Thomas DeCoud.
Three offensive players: RB Frank Gore, OL Mike Iupati, OT Joe Staley will also required replacements. Tampa Bay rookie Doug Martin will fill in for Gore. Josh Sitton of the Packers and New Orleans' Jermon Bushrod were named to take Iupati and Staley's spots.
