Now Commenting On:

Training camp officially ended for the Giants on Thursday at QDTC to little fanfare. The only difference going forward is that there will be no fans in attendance at future workouts.

"It is, but it isn’t," said head coach Tom Coughlin after Thursday's closing practice. "We still have two preseason games to go, so the timing is good; the guys that are here and have permanent residences, it is time that they had the opportunity to go home and that type of thing. Our schedule is such that our meetings will remain basically the same. Our days will reflect more of the in-season schedule. For example, a day after a ball game when they come back we are here until 8:30-9:00 o’clock at night because of all the things that need to be done. I think we can wait a while to talk about training camp."

The Giants will travel to Indianapolis today and face off against the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday night.

What you need to know this morning...

[sny-box]The offense will be without top draft pick WR Odell Beckham, Jr. for at least one more preseason game.

OT Will Beatty will play on Saturday night, but his snaps figure to be limited.

RB Peyton Hillis' ankle isn't quite there yet. He'll miss the game against the Colts.

TE Daniel Fells (knee), will also not play and is scheduled to return to practice next week.

With the TEs not bringing it this summer, the Giants will employ FB Henry Hynoski in the "up" position. Coughlin said he will not be lining up on the line of scrimmage, however.

Curtis Painter will be the second QB on Saturday night.

Coughlin confirmed the last phase of the offense was installed this week.[/sny-box]

Not enough can be said about the play of free agent CB Walter Thurmond III. He has performed as advertised, coming from the Seahawks' Super Bowl-winning secondary. He believes the Giants can have a suffocating defense.

"Most definitely suffocating them," said Thurmond. "It’s a passing league and if you can hold those guys to under 200 yards a game and obviously get turnovers. We have a great group of guys back there with Antrel and Stevie [Brown] and Prince and DRC. That pass rush is going to be pretty insane as well just because of the coverage on the backend."
