No practice today as the Giants prepare to host the Jets tomorrow night at MetLife Stadium. The Giants have been so busy sifting through their own issues, the story of Geno Smith starting for the Jets against them has gone virtually unnoticed.

"We have a rookie quarterback also," said Eli Manning after it was mentioned the Jets were starting the rookie Smith. "I’ve been working with him (Ryan Nassib) and this week things seem simple and all of a sudden, it’s Jet week and you get a lot of different looks in their personnel and alignments. For the rookies there’s a lot going on and a lot of things can get blended in together. You just try to work with them and teach them and get some plays that they feel comfortable with and get them in a good rhythm."

The annual rivalry game has become blase in recent years, with both teams just focusing on readying their teams for roster cutdowns, which are due next week. Giants QB Eli Manning still looks forward to the game, however.

"It’s always a big game," said Eli when asked if the Jet game had any special significance. "Most times it’s the third preseason game. The starters are going to play a bunch. It’s an important game for us to go out there and try to play well and we’ll try to do that against a good team."

GEICO SportsNite discusses Geno Smith getting the call to start against the Giants for the Jets in their third preseason game.

CB Corey Webster (knee/groin); WRs Victor Cruz (heel), Ramses Barden (knee) and Louis Murphy (leg); C David Baas (knee); OL David Diehl (thumb surgery); and rookie DE Damontre Moore (shoulder) did not practice yesterday and won't play in tomorrow's game. Although S Antrel Rolle practiced on a limited basis yesterday, don't expect to see him, either.

CB Terrell Thomas will continue to defy nature and make attempt his third comeback from ACL surgery. After missing the last two seasons, Thomas is anxious to resume his career.

"Excited, to say the least," Thomas told reporters. "It’s going to be fun, it was good to get out here during training camp to get my confidence back and I think that’s a great opponent to get going. The third game is a big game for the ones, so it will be a good test for me."

GEICO SportsNite talks about the injuries that the Giants have been dealing with so far this preseason and their impact moving forward.
