The skinny.........a few weeks ago the talk was that the Vikings would have nothing to play for in this game as the locked-in #2 NFC seed.....that's changed.....now it's the Giants who have nothing to play for and the Vikings who need to win today......both teams are stumbling at this point in the season.......Minnesota has lost three of their last four and New York seven of their last ten......
The Vikings were considered Super Bowl timbre until about a month ago. Since they beat the Bears, 36-10 on Thanksgiving weekend, they've slowed down considerably. Their only win in December was a decisive 30-10 win vs Cincinnati on Dec 13th at home. They were beaten soundly by both Arizona and Carolina before losing a close one in Chicago.
40-year-old QB Brett Favre is having his best season since 1995 and is one of eight Vikings on the NFC Pro Bowl roster. The Giants have only one - center Shaun O'Hara.
Since training camp the Giants have sent 10 players to season-ending Injured Reserve, including starters Kenny Phillips, Aaron Ross, Brandon Jacobs, Antonio Pierce and Jay Alford.
The Giants are severely banged up for today's game. Corey Webster, Kareem McKenzie and Chris Canty have been ruled out. Chris Snee, Rich Seubert, Mario Manningham, Michael Johnson, Ahmad Bradshaw and Justin Tuck are questionable.
Coach Tom Coughlin has said the Giants will go down fighting. The fans would like to see that, but it seems inevitable Big Blue is in for another pounding this week....
