Former Giants and Jets quarterback Geno Smith signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced Sunday night.
The 27-year-old Smith started one game for the Giants last season, throwing for 212 yards and one touchdown in a 24-17 loss to the Oakland Raiders that ended Eli Manning's consecutive games streak.
Smith has gone 12-19 as a starter in his five-year NFL career, playing the first four seasons as a member of the Jets after they drafted him in the second round in 2013. Since 2015, though, Smith has only appeared in five games, starting twice.
He has a lifetime 57.9 percent completion percentage with 6,174 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and 36 interceptions.
