After selecting multiple draft picks to bolster the defense, the Giants went after Auburn WR Darius Slayton to add depth to their receiving corps.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder broke out in 2017 in his red-shirt sophomore season with 643 yards and five touchdowns on 29 receptions over 11 games. He had virtually the same production last season with 670 yards and five touchdowns on 35 catches.

Slayton will have to battle for a depth spot on the Giants, with players like Cody Latimer, Bennie Fowler, and Corey Coleman behind the likes of Golden Tate and Sterling Shepard. But his height and speed could see him as a true asset for Big Blue this upcoming season.

Here's what else you should know about the Giants' newest wideout...

  • To say Slayton is fast wouldn't do his speed justice. He ran a 4.39 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and he was a George state champion in the 100- and 200- meter dashes.
  • The Giants know Slayton is fast, but what about his route-running skills? NFL.com's Lance Zierlein believes Slayton is a natural athlete that can "run a fully-formed route tree," but he didn't showcase that at Auburn.
  • 2018 was a tough year for the Tigers, and draft grades for multiple players suffered because of it.
  • This could be viewed as a steal for the Giants, with Zierlein predicting he would go in the third or fourth round. With some developing by wide receiver coach Tyke Tolbert, Slayton has starter potential in him that could be tapped into.
