Some things to watch for today in the Giants-49ers game....
When the Giants have the ball: They will attempt to run again, but the offensive line matches up poorly against the San Francisco front, which is one of the most physical in football. Niners' DT Justin Smith is one of the toughest players in the league and the interior of the Giants line will have their hands full.
Pro Bowl LB Aldon Smith returns from his suspension today, but it is unknown if he will play and how much. The Giants will have to pass, which means Odell Beckham, Jr. will be featured. The Niners are fully aware of Beckham and will pay extra attention to him.
CBs Chris Culliver and/or Trumaine Brock will likely draw the assignment with some assistance from the safeties. That's not all bad news for the Giants. Last week, the Seahawks tried that and were toasted by Odell.
The Giants will have RB Rashad Jennings back today and will surely by trying to get the ball in his hands, most likely in the short passing game. TE Larry Donnell and WR Rueben Randle need to start reeling in more targets if the Giants are to make this a game.
Players to watch....Giants: Beckham, C JD Walton, Donnell 49ers: LB Chris Borland, S Antoine Bethea, Culliver
When the 49ers have the ball: They will run and will likely have success. QB Colin Kaepernick has tucked it under and run 58 times thus far in the team's first nine games. If he's not carrying the ball, Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde will be. Both are physical runners that the Giants will have to pack a lunch to stop.
Through the air, the Niners have been average. That's surprising considering the talent they have in the passing game. WRs Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, Stevie Johnson and Brandon Lloyd will give the Giants' depleted secondary fits. Throw in TE Vernon Davis, a notorious Giant killer, and it seems almost unfair for the Giants defense today.
Prediction: 49ers 27, Giants 17
