The Giants have added former Vikings P Taylor Symmank, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Symmank attended Texas Tech for three years after transferring from Southern Arkansas University. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound punter, totaled 4,325 yards on 99 punts at Texas Tech.
He was undrafted in the 2016 draft, but signed with the Vikings in January 2017. He had been on the practice squad until September before he was released.
The signing of Symmank creates a battle for the starting punting job for this season. In April, the Giants traded a seventh round draft pick in 2019 for former Broncos P Riley Dixon.
Adding Symmank suggests the Giants want to create competition at the position. Dixon enters his third year in the league. He ranked 17th in yards punted last season (3,331) with a 45.6-yard average, which was good for 14th in the NFL.
