Backup QB: Ryan Nassib has looked just OK. He's throwing the ball better than last season, that is for sure. He's a bit more poised, but he does not look as if he's going force the Giants to cut Curtis Painter. Painter is 10-10 passing this preseason with a nice corner fade for a TD to his credit. Painter looks like he's staying unless something drastic happens.
TE: Larry Donnell is the current starter and has held his own in practice and in games. Daniel Fells has a bruised knee and may miss another week, but he has performed well in his chances. Kellen Davis is an experienced blocker and short yardage receiver. A likely keeper. Adrien Robinson is on the roster bubble. He needs to step things up quickly here or face the Turk. Rookie Xavier Grimble (hamstring) could spend 2014 on IR.
RG: Brandon Mosley has been starting and it was his block that opened up the seam for Rashad Jennings' 73-yard TD run on Saturday. John Jerry and James Brewer took snaps there as well this week, but this looks like Mosley's job to lose right now.
PK: Both Josh Brown and Brandon McManus have looked strong. They have buried all of the kickoffs for touchbacks so far. Neither Buffalo nor Pittsburgh were able to return a kick. Each kicker has converted all of their 33-yard PAT attempts. McManus is 2-2 in FGAs and Brown 1-1. All three kicks have been from 45 yards or better. This will be worth watching.
FB: It's been a blocking competition so far and both candidates do that very well. John Conner actually has two carries for ten yards. Henry Hynoski still has no carries or catches. Conner left Saturday's game with a concussion, so Hyno will likely see most of the snaps this week.
PR: WR Preston Parker has been getting the opportunities in Trindon Holliday's (hamstring) absence. He's averaged 11.3 YPR on four attempts with two fair catches. CB Charles James II muffed his only attempt the other night. He's probably out of the running. We may see WR Jerrel Jernigan at some point this summer, but he's been nursing a sore knee, so who knows.
KR: Parker and Quintin Demps each have two returns. Demps, the more experienced player, has two 23-yard returns where Parker has returns for 20 and 17 yards. I'm sure more players will opportunities as the summer unfolds.
Backup WR: The pecking order was clear coming into camp, but now it's become blurred. With Corey Washington and Marcus Harris emerging as contributors on both offense and specials, there isn't a whole lot of room remaining for the others. If Holliday doesn't come back soon, the Giants may Parker as well, meaning Mario Manningham, Julian Talley and Travis Harvey are on the bubble.
Others that have impressed....S Cooper Taylor has been active on defense and special teams, even with allowing a punt to be blocked in the Buffalo game. He leads the team with 11 tackles (seven solo)....CB Chandler Fenner picked up recently off waivers, could challenge for a roster spot. He's looked good....the same could be said for LB Spencer Adkins and S Nat Berhe....RB Kendall Gaskins has outperformed Michael Cox so far for the final RB spot.
