Giants can potentially be eliminated from playoffs this Sunday

Giants hold a 2-8 record heading into Week 12

It's only Week 12 in the NFL, and yet the Giants can already potentially be eliminated from making the playoffs this Sunday, per Elias Sports Bureau.

If the Giants were to lose to the Bears, the Cowboys were to upset the Patriots, and assuming there are no ties across the league, the Giants would officially be eliminated.

Now, the Giants weren't exactly expected to make the playoffs anyway considering how this season has gone, but the fact that it can occur this early is still upsetting for an organization and for its fan base.

Pat Shurmur is in his second season as head coach of the Giants and has a combined record of 7-19 so far--including a 2-8 record through Week 11, this year. Certainly, Shurmur would like to be at a better spot than he is now.

You don't have to look too far back for the last time the Giants were eliminated from the playoffs as early as Week 12. Just two seasons ago in 2017, the Giants went 3-13 and were eliminated in Ben McAdoo's second and final season as the team's head coach.

Although that result rewarded them with eventual No. 2 overall pick Saquon Barkley, the Giants have still struggled since hiring Shurmur last season.

As the team continues to go through growing pains with so many first or second year players playing in key roles, the Giants can still give the current coaching staff some time to groom them. But that process can only take so long before something needs to change.
