The Giants failed to score a touchdown as they lost to the PIttsburgh Steelers, 20-12, in their first preseason game.
Offense was provided by the two kickers, Aldrick Rosas and Mike Nugent, as they alternated field goal attempts and didn't miss one. Rosas showed off his powerful leg with a 52-yard field goal in the second quarter while Nugent split the uprights with a 45-yarder. They went a perfect 4-for-4 on the night.
Josh Johnson got the start at quarterback, and couldn't get anything going to start the night. He went 5-for-10 in the air for 31 yards.
Geno Smith had better numbers than Johnson, but he did throw an interception to Steelers LB Arthur Moats on a pass intended for WR Travis Rudolph. He finished his first night as a Giant going 10-for-16 with 114 yards.
The Steelers cashed in on a muffed punt by CB Donte Deayon with a touchdown to WR Cobi Hamilton. Hamilton beat CB Valentino Blake on the outside for an easy grab in the end zone.
The decisive score came on a 15-yard touchdown run from RB Terrell Watson to put the Steelers up eight in the fourth quarter. Davis Webb got his first NFL reps under center with the chance to tie the game. However, it was to no avail as the Giants turned the ball over on downs.
Webb finished 8-for-16 for 67 yards.
The Giants will travel to the Cleveland Browns for their next preseason game on August 21.
