Ereck Flowers did not acquit himself well against the Jaguars during the Giants' Week 1 loss, in what was his first regular season game after switching from left tackle to right tackle. And fans are not hiding their feelings.
"Ereck Flowers is a soon-to-be free agent, American football offensive tackle currently playing for the New York Giants of the National Football League," is what his Wikipedia entry (which has since been edited back) read after the game. Hat tip to reddit user Syckological.
The 25-year-old Flowers, who struggled badly last season, had an appallingly bad first series Sunday that helped kill the Giants' first drive. His tripping penalty negated a five-yard completion to Odell Beckham Jr. on 1st-and-10, and his penalty later in the series negated a nearly 40-yard completion to Evan Engram.
Overall, Flowers looked just about the same as he looked last season. And his poor play -- along with the poor play of the rest of the offensive line -- forced Manning to rush throws and led to Saquon Barkley getting crushed in the backfield multiple times.
Still, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur has no plans to bench Flowers, saying Monday that he thought Flowers had "a lot of really good plays."
