Free agents acquired by the GiantsDT Cullen Jenkins 3/10/2013: Signed a three-year, $8 million contract. The deal contains $3 million guaranteed, including a $2 million signing bonus. 2013: $1.1 million, 2014: $2.45 million, 2015: $2.2 million. Basically traded him for Chris Canty, who got a similar deal from Baltimore. Not a bad player, but not the run-stuffer they need.
PK Josh Brown 3/13/2013: Signed a one-year, $940,000 contract. A cheaper option to Lawrence Tynes (who is still unsigned). Brown's leg is powerful than Tynes'. This gives the Giants the latitude to attempt longer FGs as well as lead to more touchbacks.
LB Dan Connor 3/16/2013: Signed a one-year, $715,000 contract. Still only 27, Connor should still have a few goood years of football ahead of him. The Giants only want one, for now.
WR Louis Murphy 3/16/2013: Signed a one-year, $715,000 contract. He is fast and can stretch the field. Just what the Giants need. Only 25, Murphy can turn out to be a real steal for the Blue.
CB Aaron Ross 3/12/2013: Signed a one-year, $715,000 contract. The only reason I can think of why the Giants brought him back is so that Jerry Reese can justify drafting Ross in the first place. He's nothing more than a depth player on the defense, playing in nickel packages. Perhaps they want him to return punts. That I can see....
TE Brandon Myers 3/16/2013: Signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract. The deal included a $1.5 million signing bonus. 2013: $725,000 (+ $25,000 workout bonus). Nice pickup. Myers can be the reliable go-to guy the Giants have not had since Steve Smith was here.
S Ryan Mundy 3/13/2013: Signed a one-year, $715,000 contract. No clue what they see in this guy. We will find out soon....
Players re-signed by the GiantsOT Will Beatty 2/27/2013: Signed a five-year, $37.5 million contract. The deal contains $19 million guaranteed -- a $12.5 million signing bonus, Beatty's first two base salaries, and $650,000 of his third-year salary. Beatty is eligible for annual $50,000 workout bonuses. Another $1.25 million is available through escalators in 2014-2017. 2013: $1 million, 2014: $4.85 million, 2015: $5.5 million, 2016: $6.625 million, 2017: $6.775 million. A must signing. The Giants invested heavily in Beatty and now want to see their efforts pay off. He may not be a Pro Bowler, but he's steady.
LB Keith Rivers 3/14/2013: Signed a one-year, $715,000 contract. Another case of Reese not letting go. Not sure where Rivers will play, but we'll settle for seeing him go injury-free for a whole season, just once.
DT Shaun Rogers 2/7/2013: Signed a one-year, $1.005 million contract. The deal included a $65,000 signing bonus. If Rogers lands on injured reserve, his salary drops to $433,000. 2013: $940,000. Notorious space-eater. They need a huge body in the middle of the d-line. They don't come much larger than Rogers. Needs to stay healthy, though.
QB David Carr 3/19/2013: Signed a one-year contract. Terms not yet disclosed. He has the easiest job in the NFL and hopefully it stays that way.
RB: Ryan Torain 3/12/2013: Signed a one-year, $715,000 contract. He has ability, but probably won't get much of a chance to display it.
