NFL free agency is a day old and the Giants have yet to sign any external players. Meanwhile, some of their coveted targets are landing elsewhere.
The latest Giants target to wind up somewhere else is linebacker Preston Smith, who Matt Lombardo of NJ.com reported the Giants had "significant interest."
Smith, 26, will be signing with the Packers, reports Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
His deal will be for four years and $52 million (with $16 million guarnateed) reports ESPN's Josina Anderson, who says he was choosing between the Colts and Packers.
Smith was a second-round draft pick for the Redskins in 2015 and is coming off a season in which he finished with 53 tackles, four sacks, 16 quarterback hits, one interception and three pass deflections.
He did have an eight sacks in 2017 and his rookie season, as well as 21 quarterback hits in 2017.
